Good morning all. Sunny here but very chilly. Out for lunch later but planning some garden time this morning got to make the most of my day off. Does anyone else on here find the dreaded housework gets very neglected at this time of year? I really should do some today but instead I am drawn outside to “just” do one thing then 3 hours later I realise I need a wee and where has the time gone?
Maybe I am taking the idea that a garden is another room in the house a bit too literally.

Good morning everyone, another frost here but bright sunshine which is lovely to see. Managed to almost finish the new veggie patch at the weekend. Just a few more plants to move out but need to weed and make space in their new homes first. Am really pleased with how it’s looking.

The new blackcurrant is in and I have a gooseberry to plant, bare root so heeled in temporarily whilst I decide where it’s going. I’ve also got two blueberries to plant, potted ones which were a Christmas present. It’s more of a fruit patch at the moment.

I also have a dilemma to resolve. Two of the plants to move are Rosa Munstead Wood. Fabulous flowers but never a healthy plant for me. Am undecided whether to relocate them or just call it a day? I have a sunny spot they could go in, sunnier than where they were so maybe they will do better.

I was working all day yesterday but free today. Think we will have a walk this morning and then I can get into the garden this afternoon. No HW planned today here @Debs64 and gardening always takes priority

      Glad Maisie is ok

      Have a great day everyone

        Good morning all.

Cool, some wind and something like drizzle forecast.

        How is Maisie? @Penny_Forthem

Tea and toast over for me @Ladybird4 so starting to move. Nothing exciting on the cards @AuntyRach - highlight of the week: getting more horse manure!!

I trust your day will go nicely. Will check in later.

@Debs64 - errmmm what is housework? @Butterfly6 I would be tempted to give your roses a second chance and I'm loving the description of your fruit patch. Watch out for the spiny gooseberry though!

@Butterfly6, I believe Munstead Wood has been retired by David Austin, so you may want to hang on to them, as you wouldn't be able to replace them if you change your mind.

Sunny here this morning, but a biting wind though of a chilly wind. Out for breakfast ( porridge with bananas and honey) and then a walk. I must take my binoculars with me, there is a lot of activity in the hedgerows, and lots of singing.
The green bins go out tonight, so my task today ( should I choose to accept it!) is to gather up any prunings and weeds until the bin is full. I already have a pile I cut / dug out last week, so well on the way.
It is baby bunny season! We often see a pair of rabbits on the lawn, ( possibly two pairs, one each side of the house, but they do look alike so maybe it’s the same ones!) but when I looked out yesterday, there was a tiny baby nibbling grass by the snowdrops. The previous evening, there was another one exploring the patio outside the French window. Even hopped up on the step to look in. Very cute.
It’s lovely to be outside actually in the garden rather than trying to admire it from inside. The sunshine has revealed what a disgraceful state the windows are in! Where do all the smears come from? Luckily I have read somewhere that you shouldn’t clean windows when the sun is on them, absolutely no idea why, but it sounds like an excellent excuse to ignore that particular chore for a bit longer!

Morning everybody, my, some of you get up very early! I've never been an early riser and can happily sleep in until gone 9 am although these days we do try to get up just after eight.

It's brilliant sunshine here and up to 9c already but quite windy. I shall have to pop out to the S/M later as we have a friend arriving to stay for a couple of days, helping OH put the gearbox back into his old car. I'm planning to try a new dish tonight, slow cooked chicken in cider so need extra supplies. Fingers crossed it turns out ok.

Other than that, more loft clearance and putting stuff we don't want on Ebay - it doesn't seem as easy to do that as it used to be.

Hope you all enjoy your day and hope Maisie's still ok.

Maisie has gone to kennels with the others - we got the look said said, 'How could you?', but she went in quite happily.
That's the worst part about going away.

@Penny_Forthem since we got our dogs we only left them in kennels to go for a week's skiing plus a short trip back to Belgium not long after we loved here. Fortunately there is a Shetland collie breeder and kennels just up the road. Despite their having all the mod cons and excellent care we always felt terribly welcome and had an exhuberant welcome when we went to collect them.

Enjoy your trip away and also the welcome home.

Sunny here but very cold still. I've been very busy all morning making stock, prepping tonight's dinner which is early cos of double dance class and battling with cardboard to make a surround so I can frame a piece of slow stitching I did last year. Tried a stanley knife and a rotary cutter but it's proving unco-operative.

@Butterfly6 DA retire roses when their plant breeder's rights run out and/or they prove to be not a good long term rose. I'd hang on to your Munsteads, maybe try them in pots or a suitable bed nearer the house so you can coddle them into better growth and take cuttings too as they may do better on their own roots rather than grafted.

Good afternoon everyone, my my you've been busy. Similar here much brighter but still a cold wind.
Well the deed is done and my Allotment has been battered into submission by a very powerful machine. Ploughed first then twice over with cultivator blades. I know the modern trend is no dig but a well tilled soil still looks good to me.

P.S. And the work was done for me:)
Not easy though, I saw how hard he worked to drive this machine through. I'm sure @Ante1 will know what I mean.
Since doing my plot, my friend has been asked to do other ones, so I think this big machine will pay for itself quite soon.

Woohoo, the green bins are full and parked by the roadside for the morning! If I can avoid the temptation to sit back and relax, with two weeks to go before the next collection, I should have a few days to do ‘proper’ gardening. I have some plants to go in the ground, and seeds to start off, so I’d better get on with it.
That plot looks great, @Allotment Boy. We have, in the distant past, rented a heavy duty rotavator to clear some ground, but it was very hard work, and we are certainly no longer strong enough to wrangle one.
Is the kennel near you a breeder of Shetland Sheepdogs - like Lassie but half size? We had two of those many years ago, much loved and still missed.
Slow cooked chicken in cider sounds delicious, @lizzie27. We’ve had spaghetti with my low fat version of pesto sauce! Walnuts, basil and a little grated cheddar whizzed up in the processor, but without the oil. A bit weird, but tasty and crunchy!

Wow! That sky is so blue.

I agree with others about your Munstead Woods @Butterfly6. David Austin seem to have stopped selling their red roses. Maybe if you move them they will be happier anyway.

I was upset when we got back from the SM this morning. The roses in my round bed were all shooting nicely with baby leaves and a deer has got into the garden and eaten a lot of them. Its little hoof prints were in the bed. I think it was most likely early this morning and I probably frightened it when I came downstairs to make coffee and drew the curtains and switched on lights. Luckily it hadn't been to the top end of the garden. We haven't had a deer since I frightened one and OH raised the height of the top of the garden fences. The garden is on a bit of a slope so there is a top and a bottom. I've just spent an hour putting up the electric fence across the bottom. The fence is a nuisance because it's between the barn where I keep the car and gardening stuff and the garden.

I gardened this afternoon. It was sunny and mild but quite windy.

Good evening all. OH what a day, but I'll not nag, it's almost finished. Bad weather from this morning ended very quickly, and later was calm and much warmer. I bought few little things at GC. Now is time for dinner and rest.
@Allotment Boy, I know exactly what you mean, but I'll need to repeat it once more.
