@Allotment Boy, the repairman jacked the car up first. He said that there is an anti-theft nut that you have to undo first with a different spanner that he found in the car. If you don't do that there is no way we could have unscrewed the nuts!

Morning all. A cold but sunny one here, so once it warms up a bit more I'll be out in the garden. Got some shopping to do in the meantime, though.

Totally agree about loud music and crowds, @Debs64 , @Ladybird4, @Busy-Lizzie & @Allotment Boy (and very probably a lot of the rest of us!). Can't be doing with it. Give me a garden filled with birdsong every time. I'm miserable at parties, and now have learnt it's best to explain frankly why I must refuse the kind invitation, rather than making up a feeble excuse - or worse, suffering in a corner and leaving as early as possible. I'd much rather enjoy a quiet coffee with a few friends, and the ones who matter are happy with that. In fact, most of my friends feel the same...

I once gardened for someone who had horseradish in his lawn, because it had invaded from the bed next to it. The smell when mowing was eye-watering!

Thank you @Allotment Boy and @Liriodendron. It is destined for a big pot on feet, with a large drip tray underneath it, which will be placed on slabs behind the shed, so I hope to curtail its rampant habit.
We have wild garlic by the stream and that's bad enough!
The owner of the caravan site is very keen on parties! She has at least 1 a month, for 20 at a time; sit down catered meal with 'entertainment', usually a soul/motown singer. We have been asked to 2 (almost certainly to replace others who've dropped out!) and avoided them because of 'other commitments' (think I was washing my hair!). In the end, we did say that, since hub's illness, we are not party animals. We couldn't think of anything worse than being trapped with 18 strangers, listening to music we don't like. To be fair, they have a proper sound proofed room for such extravagances!

I hope that you were happy with your double glazing quotes @Fourmerkland. You have just reminded me that I have a failed unit that needs replacing - I'll add that to my 'to do' list. Pleased you got the puncture all sorted @Busy-Lizzie. I have to say that I have never tried growing horseradish because I had heard what a thug it could be. I am sure that you are completely correct about your GD @Allotment Boy

I am another one not keen on parties - its hard to hold a conversation with anyone and there are too many interruptions and distractions. Our first Friday meals are nice as the maximum number if all go is 9. My family get togethers are huge and as we all know each other well there is less tension and the small people are so entertaining.

Another one here who dislikes parties in general and loud music in particular. I am slightly deaf however so that might make it worse.

Had a less hectic day as I was shattered by the time I went to bed last night. Usual walk with OH this morning and after coffee when we got back, dug up a small clump of snowdrops to plant down in the Community Orchard we walk through. The primroses I'd previously planted are all in bloom so I do hope they spread like mad next year.

After lunch, I felt more inspired by the warmer sunshine and cut down an ailing ceanothus which would probably be in the way of the new shade sail I want to put up. This arrived today and looks very good quality with metal rings at the fixing points and the necessary rope. All I have to do now is to work out how we are going to do it and persuade OH it's his job! Cutting down the tree was made much easier with a new bowsaw.

Glad your puncture was sorted @Busy-Lizzie and as others have said, how convenient it was near your home.

There was a screw in the tyre.

I did some gardening this afternoon and wrote the names of my roses on bits of broken roof tiles with a laundry pen. They make good labels.

Well just ask who put the kiss of death on the weather - talking about wanting another glorious day last night? I have woken up to rain! Cheers Tap Controller in the sky! I do have some indoor stuff to do including reading my meters - possibly for the final time - and then clearing a space around them as I am having a 'smart' meter (yeah right!) fitted tomorrow.

Grey and drizzly here too after a beautifully sunny Monday. Working today so I don’t really mind.

Visited the GC yesterday and treated ourselves to a new Hydrangea, Wim’s Red. Flowers apparently start off cream and mature to a deep red, just need to decide where it goes - I have 2 potential spots. I spent a hour or so pottering in the garden. Skimmed some algae from the pond, probably the last chance for a while as the tadpoles will be on the move soon. At the moment they are still in their big huddle eating their egg sacs at one end of the pond. Other than that, I had a half hearted attempt to remove some ivy from one of our beds. I clipped it back quite hard but need to get in there properly and get the roots out. I also cut down last years Phlomis stems, some go into a tall, thin pot as a display against the house wall. The rest plus last years (from the pot) I split between a bug pile under a bench and bundles tucked into the trellis in our wild area. They last incredibly well and one of my favourite seedheads.

I’m not a fan of parties either, munch prefer a quiet chat with a few friends.

Hope you slept better @Ladybird4 . We had a smart meter fitted last year, haven’t had any problems with it (touch wood).

Have just added a laundry pen to my shopping list @Busy-Lizzie . I have some black wooden labels and was wondering what I could use to write on them.

Hope everyone else has an enjoyable/productive/satisfying day (delete as appropriate)

                          Good morning all!

A drizzly dismal day yesterday but Fizz and I got out briefly for a walk - too muddy for the bike. Consequently, I have a heavy cold this morning. Hope it clears up as the day progresses. Seems to be windy and cloudy this morning. Hopefully some peeps of sun!!

Happy gardening to you all and I hope you have a good day.

                            Good Morning folks.

I hope your cold doesn’t make you feel unwell @Tui34.

Everyone seems busy and plenty of gardening going on.

I’m ’afternoons’ today so I’ll potter about until about 10 then I’ll iron my uniforms for the week ahead and start getting ready.

                            Take care all.

Thank you for your reassurance @Butterfly6. I have resisted having a smart meter but at the end of this June the RTS (Radio Teleswitch Service) that controls my ancient meter is being switched off so I have had to accept the inevitable or risk having problems with my heating and hot water. I did sleep slightly better last night, thanks and as it is still raining I am going to prick out my mini dahlias and the last of my tomato seedlings. There is something mysterious going on in the Lane as the traffic is being held up in both directions. I suspect temporary traffic lights for some reason but normally we get notification if the council/utilities are carrying out any kind of major work.
