I think the Mayor of London , old King Khan, bought a massive blow up of Trump a few years back, he's probably hoping Trump comes back soon so that he can get his moneys worth, bet that was made in China. I'm sure Khan has enough hot air to blow it up one more time.
I lived in Wandsworth for several years and Sadiq Kahn was our local councillor at that time. I always found him to be a very helpful, businesslike and down to earth person who was more than willing to pay attention to and deal with local problems. He comes from a very ordinary family with no pretences, went to the local state schools, had Saturday jobs when he was a child etc etc. I have a lot of time for him.
And I do not think he is mean at all. And not going to debate you over that either. Truly approve of how he is handling what I voted him in office for.
At least that stuff has survived to make it into antique shops/boot sales and not gone into landfill. Fashions come around again (eventually) - I know young people who think stuff from the 1970s is the bees knees!
Forget antique shops, I saw an identical pair of shoes to ones I wore in the 70s, in the Costume Museum in Bath!
There is a chap that does house clearances at the top of my road and there is very little he can sell on now. It always surprises me that people buy cheap chipboard furniture for hundreds of pounds but there is no value in, proper wood, old furniture anymore. The value of it is so low that he just breaks it all up and gives it to his neighbour for firewood.
Income tax was introduced in the USA as an alternative to tariffs, as the latter penalised the poorer majority, while the wealthy and privileged contributed hardly anything. So of course it makes sense for Trump to spout his plans to reduce taxes, and replace the income with tariffs which he and his wealthy cronies will benefit from, directly from the pockets of every American, including the very poorest. No lessons learnt from history there? He is still claiming that the contribution to Ukraine (in actual sales of weaponry, not donations, and offloading obsolete materiel) was $350 billion, when every reliable source is stating that it was nearer $123 billion. Can’t add up, probably part of the reason he went bankrupt six times! We can’t count Trump as a reliable source of anything, he seems incapable of telling the truth. Sad to think that some Americans evidently wanted a president who lies to them continually, is happy to rip them off financially, and threatens to invade other sovereign countries by force. And are proud to state that they wanted him to do that. Enlightening!
Except for beds, when I need new furniture my first port of call is the second hand shops. I like real wood and, if it's a bit chipped or dirty it doesn't matter as I know how to clean, repair and, if necessary, paint or stain. A lot USA news coverage was pretty poor even before Trump @Ergates and now he and his cronies are controlling things like Fox News and trying to take down the NY Times and other reputable newspapers as well as tanking 60 Minutes on more reliable TV chains the average US citizen is not getting the truth. He's even got the FBI locking up judges for defying him to uphold the law so there is a climate of fear. The ones who refuse to see what he's up to are going to have to go thru a lot of pain before they finally accept he's a liar, cheat, bully, rapist, serially bankrupt, self agrandising bully with no care for the US or its citizens as long as he's making money.
Trump is typical of many who grew up with wealth and privilege without having earned any of it themselves. They were spoilt as kids, got everything they wanted and don't understand when people try to say 'No' to them now. They believe everything the say is true, and everything they do is the right thing.
Existential qu of the day - why are flies so stupid? If they come in a wide open patio door, why can they not find their way out via the same route? Why must they headbang the closed bit in a rage of frustration, wearing themselves out and annoying me? Pesky things.
Same here @ViewAhead except that ours have been feasting on cattle and horses so poop blood drops all over. Fine on furniture but not so clever on cloth such as my embroidered or patchwork table runners. Infuriating on clean washing.
This little video came up just after the one where Trump says he doesn't know what the Congo is. Made me laugh, but both are weep-worthy too: 3 yorum | Niels Gøtke on Reels
Trump and Zelensky are coming to an agreement on trade of minerals. A few weeks ago Trump accused Zelensky the main cause and being complicit in starting the 'conflict' in Ukraine. Now that they are coming to a deal Trump has accused Putin of 'starting the war'.
