A friend of a friend has to rehome her german shepherd. She ďivorced her womanising husband and kept her dog .who now is just over 2 year old. She has been struggling since she lost her job in september due to ill health. Its due to her ill health plus the financial difficulty she cannot look after herself plus her dog. She spends many a day in bed with brain fog due to her health problems.
A good neighbour is coming in several times a day to take the dog for walks and to feed her in the morning plus help her with medication
. She is coming to the decision sadly she would need to ask a rescue to rehome her.
She has only contacted one rescue to be told they ask for a donation of £ 75 . She can pay them something Plus she would have to keep her at home for would be adopters to come to see her which is impossible due to her ongoing health problems admitted her husband would look after her when they were together. Going through the divorce brought new problems , I think this is asking a lot of her .

Do all the rescue s who offer rehoming work like this ?

Try contacting The Cinnamon Trust. They are based in Hayle in Cornwall but work nationwide.
They have been going for 40 years and send out a newsletter which is always full of happy stories.

They rehome dogs and other animals and also organise volunteer dog walkers for people who are temporarily unable to walk their dogs themselves.

I got my dog from the Dogs Trust last year, they have kennels all over the country.

I dont think they would expect you to keep the dog and have people come round, I think you probably pass ownership over to them.
They then do all the necessary checks and get to know the dogs temperament before they would even think of rehoming it.

@Fat Controller may have some suggestions for you as he was helping with a dog charity.

I think it’s the one of dedicated Alsatian ones that requires owners to keep the dog and show it to prospective new owners. My elderly neighbour used them to get a new dog. I wouldn’t recommend them. All the other dog charities had turned her down due to her age and health (quite rightly in our opinion, we were good friends with her and agreed with the charities).

The dog she chose was completely wrong for her and the description from the charity re its behaviour and temperament were misleading. Also she was not a suitable owner for a poorly trained, poorly socialised, very nervous dog. So yes it was her choice ( she told us she felt sorry for it so went against her better judgment) but the charity shouldn’t have matched them as a possible pair anyway. It didn’t end well and the poor thing had to be rehomed again.

I had to measure up to certain standards before I was allowed to get my dog.
They are very particular about matching the right environment with the right dog and also the right owner.

If it's not a place that does that then they are best avoided in my opinion.
Which is why I think the dog should be handed over to one of the well known places that rehome dogs and cats.
              Even the RSPCA.

There is a place fairly close to me that has very mixed reviews regarding rehoming dogs, they try their best,I think, but it's more a case of wanting to find homes for the dogs they have without too many questions asked.

I'd agree with @Tidemark re The Cinammon Trust. When I was trying to help a neighbour to find a Jack Russell as a companion, my sister ( who works with dogs in Leics. ) highly recommended them.

I have a couple of friends who have always had rescued shepards and they get a phone call from some of the local rehoming centres occassionally. I think some of these places have lists of people who are familiar with certain breeds, so it might be worth approaching them to see if they could ask on your friends behalf.

The Cinnamon Trust is a great set up, I walked a dog for a lady for several years through them, but they do not "rehome" dogs. They long term foster them. If they decide you are a suitable dog carer, they put a dog with you, to care for as long as necessary, covering some of the vet costs, ie annual health check. They cover their costs with money donated by owners.
