He was my mum's favourite comedian, she being a proud Scot. "Skooshing down the Matterhorn" and "Not so much uplifted as wheecht" are two of his descriptions which stick in my mind to this day. Apologies to those who don't understand them.
I'm as guilty as the next person moaning about Trump - he'd love this thread with so many mentions so I suppose we are simply pandering to his ego. Can only hope he soon becomes as unfashionable as Bell Bottoms and Winklepickers
I'm afraid I find everything Trump does comes under the "Whaaaat!!!" heading. I can also quite understand why Americans might prefer a CEO to their usual run ofpoliticians but I don't understand their choosing this CEO. He has filed for bankruptcy multiple times which hardly proclaims him as an effective or safe manager of either money or his staff. He has been convicted and fined for lying about the value if his properties in NY and also fined for defamation of another person. He's already thrown the US economy into turmoil and his tariffs have put thousands of jobs at risk as well as ending others and he's riding rough shod thru the constitution and its system of checks and balance in the courts and the Senate as well as international treaties on trade, ecology, defence, health and human rights. And they've just given entry to 17 members of a Mexican drug cartel family, presumably for protection in return for testifying agains another member. Just the sort of immigrant the US needs. What he's doing definitely rates as WTFF. I find @redtstar's view of him highly disturbing because it seems irrational in face of all the evidence, despite some very dodgy media, and the pity is she's not alone cos how else did such a travesty get elected? That's me done on the subject except to say how desperately sorry I am for all the victims who've lost their homes, their families, their livelihoods and for all the ecosystems and creatures that will suffer as he pillages the national parks for their minerals and oils. It is all shameful and is doing irreparable damage to US citizens at home and US stature abroad.
I concur with the points you have raised over the weeks @Obelix-Vendée . Sadly, I don't think The Republican Trump Fan will ever agree with the majority of us on here, so we're wasting our energy by feeding into that particular viewpoint.
Some times you just have to accept, however impossible it might seem, that other people might just have a different opinion.
Accept that, @pete . But when just one person seems to repeatedly attempt to dominate a thread with that opinion, it does, as you rightly say, become rather 'boring'. Shall we get back to the delights of bellbottoms, loon pants and those long-sleeved tee shirts with mirror inserts? Sods to iron....
