Hello from Westmoreland... South West Cumbria!

I am not sure that I am actually a NEW member, I joined Gardeners Corner many years ago but my attendance lapsed, I have changed eMail addresses multiple times and I couldn't find any links so I have created a new account.

As the title implies I live in a beautiful place right next to the Duddon estuary in the North West of England, no more than 100 yards from the high water mark. When the wind blows, it really blows but overall our climate is generally quite mild.

My main interest is making things, I am very interested in photography, joinery, engineering etc. I am also very interested in plants, particularly plant names and even more especially, commemorative plant names. I have experimented with infra red and ultra violet photography very kindly instructed and guided by a Norwegian botanic expert in the field.

My father was a plant expert writing regularly for publications like Popular Gardening, he did his best to educate me in the intricacies of plant names. His last book has never been published, it contains some 240,000 words about commemorative plant names and the peope for whom the plants were named. I have re-written, corrected to a publishing editors instructions and type-set the manuscript but not been able to publish it yet. I have visited most of the botanic gardens in the UK and taken many thousands of photographs of plants.

Just a bit of my background. For all the foregoing, I still don't know much about gardening!
