For well over a year I've had problems with being logged out. It's worse since I moved ten months ago. This happens regularly, as much as five days a week between the hours of 4-10pm.

It's so bad that it's impossible to complete a sentence let alone a post before being logged out. I log back in and can be logged out again straight away, it's ongoing so I give up and leave the forum. Clearing cookies makes no difference.

Any help would be much appreciated please.

Sorry you are having that problem @Sheal

It's not something I've heard of before. How are you accessing the forum? PC with Windows? Which version of windows? What is the browser. Have you tried other browsers?

I know you said you are clearing cookies but are are you allowing them?

The other issue could be your security software interrupting your browser session, are you using an anti-virus tool, which one?

That, to me, sounds like it is more related to your internet connection than anything. Not quite sure what sort of connection you are using (I am presuming fibre or mobile) and I am going to take a punt that it is happening when the adverts go to change (browser is looking for a callback and not getting it, so timing out) - or, if you are running an ad-blocker, they can sometimes have the same effect (ad-services script goes to run, halted by the ad-blocker which then stalls the browser), however I don't think it is an ad-blocker in this case given that it is happening in peak hours.

If your town/village hasn't the best internet fibre service, even more so if it is linked to that of another town where it also isn't so great, that would go a long way to explaining this, particularly the time window as 4-10pm is peak internet traffic time (kiddies home from school and parents streaming Netflix etc), so I'd advise speaking to your internet provider and telling them that your internet is losing connection between those times, randomly

Not on Gardeners corner but on Facebook I often get a message saying your Internet connection has been restored, I wasn't aware it had been interrupted.
I assume @Sheal you are box ticked to stay logged in?

That is a really good point actually - Facebook is a very, very good yardstick of this sort of thing as it is hypersensitive to connection issues and will display them even when your PC hasn't physically lost connection, but rather when there is a simple timeout

                Thanks John...

I'm using a laptop pc with Windows11. Browser is Edge/Bing. I had so many problems with other browsers on my previous computer (Windows10 & 11) that Edge was the only one that functioned properly, so I've stayed with it.

I allow most cookies and delete from time to time.

                Anti-virus is Defender.

                  Thankyou Woo,

Sorry, I won't use any other browser. The problem I have only arises here on GC, it's fine on other forums and elsewhere.

Cache and cookies are cleared regularly but not every day.

                    Thanks too FC...

I'm on fibre here but not at my last house and the issue has continued and got worse since the move. I'm not running an ad-blocker.

My village changed to fibre about 18 months ago. My internet isn't losing connection, it's fine with everything I do elsewhere but not GC. Mr S has no problems with his computer at all. Previous tests show that speed etc, is very good.

                    Thanks Pete...

I've not seen that Pete only once or twice during very bad weather, and we've had none here since last autumn.

I've not ticked a stay logged in box. I log out of everything and log in when necessary.

Note to all trying to help me with this: I've had other ongoing issues with GC for years which I've queried and none have been solved. Those I have got used to coping with, but I can't do anything about being logged out.

Just try ticking that box and see if it still happens.
If it doesn't work you just untick it and go back to how you are now. To be honest I've been logged in for 20 yrs and never logged out, I cant see why you would want to.

I only log out of stuff that involves money, banking etc.

Typically Pete it's behaving this evening but I will give that a try.

I've always logged out of everything. A feeling of security and tidy minded-ness. If I'm honest the only reason I have a computer is to stay in daily contact with my family, and apart from the forums I'm a member of, I use it for very little else.

Ah, if you've not ticked that box, anything that refreshes the browser (could be an ad, or even a simple script) will kick you out. Whilst I don't disagree with the 'tidy mind' logging out of things financial etc, I would strongly advise not logging out of GC for the very reason of the issues you are having.
