Still a magnificent bird @hydrogardener and an essential part of ecology.

Hard to guess without a photo, but sounds like a juvenile gull. I saw one this morning on a neighbour's roof, yelling at its parent for food.

Thankyou @Escarpment. That helps. I was desperate to bury it quickly. The starlings are still noisy here, but not seen any close-up. Gulls are soooo noisy though, aren't they!

I thought we were doing well with a pair of Greenfinches but this morning three males appeared, we have never had two before.

Saw this moth web on a silver birch sapling at the weekend. Caterpillars sunbathing on top! When we passed it again on our return, there were caterpillars were heading off along the branches and down the trunk. Looked it up when we got home, it appears to be a nursery web of the small eggar moth, fairly rare now in the uk.

It is funny, yesterday when T'other Half was watering the pots on the Raised Patio said bird was dashing through the spray as it was over 30c ... and Squeak the visiting cat was just watching from the shaded rockery.

I agree with @Sheal - looks like a blackbird to me too. Ravens are huge compared to others in the crow family.
                          That web is stunning @Ergates.
We get nuthatches here @strongylodon , although they're apparently not very common in Scotland. There's a little colony in the nearby NT garden, so we get them quite often. I had 2 in together a while ago, so hopefully they 're nesting and producing youngsters. One was back in the other day after being absent - presumably due to nesting etc. They say they don't go too far from their original sites, so fingers crossed you have a new, more permanant, little family there. :)

                            It is a Blackbird Vicky.

Blue Tits have fledged and we have a second brood of Siskins as well as young Sparrows and young Goldfinches so the feeders are emptying quicker than ever.

Thank you to Sheal, On the Levels and Strongyloden. At 35c all afternoon it has been too hot to go out and see if he visited today.
