Today, I also received a small drone with all the modern features like return to home, follow-me, way point, and on and on. I guess I will have to read the manuals and watch the videos so it will be a while before I fly it, the weather is foul anyway, so it will probably be spring.
That said, I purchased a DJI Phantom P330D several years ago, but due to all the government regulations it was not legal to fly, as it did not have remote ID, though it is registered with the FAA and I took and passed the required TRUST course. As it cost several hundred dollars at the time I purchased the drone, I have been holding on to it. When the remote ID requirement was first implemented, I investigated ways to retro-fit the drone, but it was expensive.
At one point, I was thinking of disassembling the drone and selling the parts, but that would be a shame as the drone has only about two hours flight time. I decided to look at retro-fitting the drone again, and much to my surprise the cost had decreased dramatically! I found a Holy Stone remote ID module on eBay for $27, that also arrived today, and it took all of five minutes to program the module and edit my FAA registration. So, for 27 dollars, my 800 gram drone is now legal to fly again!
Programming the module was quick and easy, then all you have to do it apply it with Velcro and turn it on, presto, you are legal again.
Charging the module is through a USB port and a charge lasts five hours.

Being new to drone ownership, I’m not familiar with remote ID, if you would be kind to mention it’s purpose please

      edited to add,

I did some googling and it came up with the answer, it looks like we’ll be having this over here very soon too

The entire concept for casual users like us is silly. I have the remote ID on the drone and the range is perhaps 400–500 yards. And, you need a special receiver, which few people have. It appears to be another way to hassle drone owners.

Sorry to pour cold water on your enthusiasm but, as someone who lives in a nationally acknowledged beautiful part of the countryside, I must say that I HATE DRONES. People come out here and think they have every right to fly the blasted things over my garden, hovering to see which page of Gardeners’ World I am reading, and making that tooth grinding whiny noise just to break the peace of the birdsong. I tackled one man who told me all about his licences and his qualifications and his right to fly the thing, but refused to listen to my side of the argument that I was surely entitled to enjoy the privacy of my own property.

        I HATE DRONES.

          I agree.
My dog used to be terrified of the wretched things when Daddys were playing with them, (teaching small human how to use them.) Yeerh! Pull the other leg, it has bells on it.
My dog didn't know which way to go to run away from them. The noise is horrendous.

Nice in theory, but how do you (a) find the owner before he (always a he) skiddadles and (b) get him to erase the information he has gathered and (c) get anyone in authority to check on this unnamed, unidentifiable person and his machine and do something useful instead of just listening to you “reporting concerns”?

Try reporting it to the useless police as ASB (Anti-social behaviour) as it's the top thing at the mow they may look into it, but don't hold or breath may help if neighbours join in as well, picture's and videos will help as well but ;)

How to identify the owner? Time for people to wear number plates, like cars, I think.

            Then what?
            Polite warning.
Take it away, play with it somewhere else and annoy someone else?

Not needed with all the cameras; facial recognition software works as does number plate recognition.

No facial recognition round our way. Camera-free for quite a distance. What they call “open country”.:frown:
