I thought Eyed Hawk moth too but with a wing problem. It does have wings but there tiny.
I've never seen one in my garden before, it was just walking in the middle of the slabs when I found it and it's only 10c outside.

I disturbed this one whilst rummaging through the Alpine strawberries this morning (getting some lovely fruit this year). It only went a short distance and landed on the spiraea.

I have never seen a dragonfly settle in the garden, but it doesn't show up well on Alstroemeria.
I think it is a young Emperor as the adult's abdomen is blue. emperor 1.JPG

This takes me back to when we were kids and you got cards to collect in tea packets. One year it was butterflies. I wish I kept them!
The odd looking moth looks like a hawk moth (privet?) that has undeveloped wings.
Second thoughts - Perplexity AI says this: The male winter moth is light brown to tan, with a wingspan of about 22–28 mm, and has a distinctive fringe at the end of its wings. Only males can fly. Females are gray, almost wingless, and cannot fly, often found crawling up tree trunk

@strongylodon while we were volunteering for the rspb we had a young man who came with his family to capture on film the butterflies he felt his photos weren't good enough. One was the Lulworth skipper. Whether he did find it or not but you did. Fabulous.
