Ladybird4 I was put onto the new blood thinners 2 weeks ago. I decided not to take one yesterday and the nausea has gone! Yeah! The pain in my leg and hip etc is still there. I am going to phone the surgery today to see if the X-ray results have come through. I still feel rubbish.

We have had some proper rain at last. It will save me watering when I get out in the garden. More heat forecast next weekend. That will make everything grow, especially weeds.

I have to order a new TV today. my existing one has given up the ghost. My snug is only tiny so I want a small screen, not much to choose from, everyone seems to want whole wall models. There is an electrical shop near my daughter who will bring a new one to your house and set it all up for you. At a cost, in tiny print. They also take away the old TV and the packing from the new one, at a cost.

I am sure everyone is enjoying the brief respite from the heat wave, going out and about, as well as getting jobs done in the garden. I felt too ill to go to club on Sunday, also giving tomorrow a miss.
I agree with the ideas for the new tribute to the Queen and Prince Philp, in St James' Park. What a clever idea to base the design for the glass bridge on one of her tiaras, also a smaller statue of them walking arm in arm. He was her rock so it seems right for him to be celebrated alongside her. They each have their own gate and there is another statue of the Queen on her favourite horse. All of the building materials can be shipped up the Thames and moved the short distance to the park avoiding causing traffic jams etc..
My son has been invited on a fishing trip somewhere remote in Canada, they can fish for salmon, halibut and ling. They are allowed to take home 100lbs of filleted fish. Far too much for him. He has to fill in a government form reporting where he caught the fish and what it
weighs. Apparently each fish can weigh up to 30lbs! A colleague organised a team making trip for his company but not enough people wanted to go so my son was invited as a replacement.

Morning all. We’ve had some rain in the night and again this morning. The air is much fresher and clearer. However, I was quite shocked to see a baby bird has drowned in one of the water butts. We saw it yesterday, beginning to wander around the garden with mum regularly feeding it. Quite upsetting, poor little soul.

@Ergates , it’s funny you mention maybe not sowing seeds next year due poor crops and getting eaten etc. My OH said much the same thing yesterday. We both love cosmos and he grows them every year. These last two years have been really poor, and the crop this year are really bad. The leaves seem not as soft and fluffy as normal and the petals are in very poor condition. He said he’s not growing them anymore so we’ll have to think of something to occupy a small border we keep clear for them.

@Busy-Lizzie , good to hear you’ve made a safe journey to the UK. Long tiring journey for you so take it easy for a few days….you deserve it!

We both slept really well last night - hardly surprising, I suppose. The rain woke me at one stage, but it was fresh and cool, so I snuggled back under the duvet and succumbed to more zzzzzs!
Midsummer's day - do I hang the washing out? 50:50.
@Busy-Lizzie, it seems hardly any time at all that you were packing to go back to France. I think it's a long haul each side of the ferry (not done the Newhaven route) and I'm sure you must find it tiring, not to mention the planning that must go into leaving each garden.
It's been a funny old year for seeds, I agree. My courgettes are nowhere near even flowering, half the runners died off, carnations are not in bud, yet the petunias, gazanias and other annuals are just coming into their own.
Might take a sneaky peek at the potatoes later!!
Hope the results are through for you @Goldenlily26 and that a plan of action is imminent.

I have spoken to my surgery and the X-ray results are not in yet. I have been told to call again on Thursday. The Dr. who prescribed the new blood thinner is going to phone me this afternoon for a chat.
I have ordered a replacement TV, it is being delivered and installed tomorrow. Just in time for Wimbledon next week.
That is me done for today. I am going to get my head down for a nap.

            Good afternoon to you all!!

After a sprinkling yesterday evening around 7ish, the ground on our morning run was dampened. No puddles but it refreshed the air even though it was already 23°C at 6.45am. The sun was just over the horizon.

That's getting to be a very long drive for you @Busy-Lizzie Doesn't Cedric drive? It's not so much the drive - it's the long hours of concentration - especially for this big trucks that indicate at the last minute before they overtake another big truck!

I had to go down to the village after shower and breakfast and it was getting hot - 9am. The weekend is for even hotter weather.

I have one round aubergine, one long aubergine and 2 green peppers ready to pick!! My courgettes are a disaster so far - little finger size, then they turn yellow and sick. I thin I'll just use the flowers from now on. I have sown 2 more which are looking good but ..... Tomatoes are abound and still green.

            Have an enjoyable day.

@Tui34 we share but I do the bigger part as it's my car. I love my car, a red Mégane estate, Sports Tourer, and I like driving. It was Sunday when lorries are banned on motorways in France. The harder bit is in the UK as we have to go around London and there are loads of lorries, lots of traffic. Cedric isn't allowed to drive a foreign car in the UK as he is UK resident.

Sad about the baby bird. OH always wondered why I store the watering cans empty and upside down, it’s because a mouse once drowned in one.
A very pleasant day here. Despite the dull start, it didn’t really rain, so we did some gardening. OH strimmed the side of the lawn by the steps, and I took my fancy hoe and weeded part of my ‘flower bed’. Managed to squeeze the weeds into the green bins, which are well and truly full, an£ parked by the road for collection tomorrow. Then we downed tools and went out for lunch! Had an hours walk to follow, very warm but with a cooling breeze off the sea.
Now sitting outside with an alcohol free beer, OH has gone to rest his dodgy knee! I still have some energy, so maybe I’ll get some deadheading done.
I’m glad you will be able to speak to the gp, @Goldenlily26. Hopefully he can prescribe something you can tolerate better.

@Ergates , OH has covered a spare gridded plant support circle with tight squared mesh for me today to put inside the water butt to stop anymore little birds from drowning. Good idea about the upside down watering cans.

                    I do not believe it!
Daughter phoned at lunch time, just as she was leaving Leicester to drive to Cornwall. She has just called to find out what the Dr had to say. I told her I had had no call. She gave her mobile no. to the surgery as an emergency numbe for next of kin when I registered with them 5 years ago. She checked her phone and found a missed call this afternoon. She is trying to sort it out with the surgery now, except I think they are closed.
What a shame about the bird. I have often found dead frogs and mice in various containers but never anything in the rain butt. I do not miss the pussy cat pressies Poppy use to bring me. She even managed to get a baby rabbit and a mole through the cat flap, both as big as her. The little brown furries were many and varied, thankfully she rarely caught birds.
At the moment I have a very precocious young robin visiting the patio. I am very tempted to put out mealworms for it but do not want to encourage visiting felines to try their luck at catching it.
I have seen it considering coming inside the conservatory. I would love teach it to feed from my hand but it would be too dangerous.

and now the summer argument with husband. I say, google says and furnace people say that the ceiling fan should rotate counterclockwise in the summer. He says they are all wrong, he is right it should be clockwise. SMH.

I thought I'd escape the clutches of the physio today, but no, not yet.
I'm doing well, but could do better, he says (he looks about 16)
I have ordered a light set of weights and, together with a large rubber band, I'll be fit to take on the world... allegedly.

How aggravating, @Goldenlily26. And worrying that we are reliant for our healthcare on a system that isn’t very efficient ( I’m being polite here!)
We have friendly robins around here, but none brave enough to take food from our hands. They do occasionally check inside the shed when the door is open, and remove any creepy crawlies from the corners! On one of our regular walks, we do see robins who will take food. There are wooden railings along the side of the pathway, so if we remember to take any suet pellets with us, we put one or two on top of the fence. If they hop up and take them, I can then try resting my hand on the railing with a pellet or two on my palm. Some are brave enough to come over!
Our late neighbour used to feed mealworms to a local robin, which would come when he called it! I think if you can put the treats high up, rather than on the ground, you wouldn’t be putting the bird in danger from the cat? Or any more than usual, ours are always diving onto the ground to peck up almost invisible insects!
Our ceiling fans had a switch which we had marked with initials for summer and winter settings. I think it is more relevant which way the blades are set, to determine what direction they should rotate in.
I’ve been sitting outside, enjoying the cooler air, but have now seen a massive ragwort growing on the lawn. I’m sure it wasn’t there yesterday?

Evening everybody. I've had a quiet day as OH left for his Dutch trip at 9 ish this morning and had safely arrived at his friend's house near Ipswich by 6pm - only a 9 hr trip! I knew there was a good reason why I didn't want to go in the old car!

I spent several hours digging out soil again from the terrace trough and carrying it, a half bucket at a time down the steps to the flower beds - very laborious and I'm running out of room. Very good exercise however and helps my muscles if I've got any left.

Unfortunately our insurers told us today that we're not covered for the cracked and leaning terrace walls as the house itself is not affected - cue, one big bill. We're going ahead with the preliminary investigation to see what the problem might be.

Just had scrambled eggs on toast for dinner - yippee, I don't need to cook if I don't want to.

Hope you soon get your results through @Goldenlily26.

I've filled up both green bins already @Ergates and they were only emptied last Thursday.

@Obelix-Vendée I agree about the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Gardens. A fitting homage to a gracious lady. @Ergates I am also not going to be sowing seeds next year. My miniature dahlias are just green sticks and the lovely sunflower my kind neighbour gave me has been decimated. I still have seen any of the blighters and seriously wonder if they came in the compost. I think I'll go for plug plants next season.
