You watch something on television and the adverts go on for so long that you forget what you were watching, switch off and do something more interesting - even bgggger off to bed.

Years since I watched live TV. In the old days there was often just enough time to go and put the kettle on and make a cup of tea during the advert break.

Ten minutes of the actual programme, whatever it is, then a 3-4 minute advert break, and repeat ad nauseam......it's how they make 40 minute programmes fit into a one hour time slot. Yep, we're being conned!

ITV 1 is not so bad but the other channels are really bad for long advert breaks.

Even the BBC spends 5 minutes telling us about their programmes at every opportunity.

Radio 4 has programmes in episodes and a good part of each one is a recap of the last.

I watch very few programmes but when the ads come on I turn the volume off and read a book. There are always at least two books and a magazine or two alongside my armchair. I read a lot :noidea: - but am down to only four or five books a week.

I never used to turn the ads off but just read through them but nowadays the sounds from the ads are so annoying I can't bear them. The worst one at the moment is the one that advertises using the train. Programmes that also play background music whilst there is dialogue are not watched by me either.

With myself it may be an age thing or a commonsense thing. :old:

Apparently watching football on channels where there are adverts, is excruciating as they are shown every three or four minutes before kick off.:nonofinger:

I don't see adverts not having a tv. But instructive videos on Youtube and such like are a problem, especially when I need instruction for a computer issue. I can't remember what has been said or shown it's all to fast and repeating it doesn't help. Definitely an age thing, so does anyone know how too....

Adverts are one of the things that have put me off watching the tv, boring programs are another. Of the little time I spend watching the tv, things with advert breaks don't make up much of it. There are very few programs I find interesting enough to watch anyway.

After I installed an adblocker Youtube wanted me to 'whitelist' it, which I did, but I still don't see many ads there.

The self-promotion is utterly nauseating, isn't it? I particularly hate the snippets of journalists talking about how the BBC is the one truth, the light in the dark, etc, etc. Ha, ha, ha! Every report is dripping with bias, evasion and omission.

The only channels I can get are BBC 1, 2, and News 24, so I don't see ads for cars or hamburgers or whatever is being promoted these days.

Watching football is pretty awful, not so much the football if it's an interesting match, it's all those that prattle on for an hour before, at half time and an hour afterwards, if they are so clever why are they not on the pitch, they always have all the answers.
