Home made remedies

Wondering if anyone has had any success with home made remedies for bugs, slugs and weeds? I have had great success with salt & vinegar spray for weeds, I have just made up a mixture of chilli peppers & garlic for bugs, the slugs? Garlic spray & yeast traps, still in the early stages so your thoughts would be appreciated, Thanks.

 

Hi @Emm Jay, welcome, I have had success with garlic spray, when I've remembered to use it!

 

Where do you live @Emm Jay ? Nothing works here for deterring slugs, apart from endlessly going out and picking them off and dispatching- and even then....
Garlic would need applied almost every day as it would just get washed off. They've been slightly less destructive this year - only because we had a record breaking dry spring, so they were less keen to be out and about.

 

Clove oil sprinkled on the doormat keeps ants out of my porch. There's nests in the front garden but the ants don't come in.

 

I am trying garlic spray on hostas this year and I have less slug damage than normal, but it could be that the very dry spring and summer (so far) have resulted in fewer slugs. The jury is out for now.

 

Garlic spray does not kill snails and slugs it just makes the veg you spray inedible to them.

 

I use spray of water with a squirt of Fairy for aphids and ants.
