There was a Ringlet in the garden this morning. Didn't sit still long enough for me to get a decent photo!

Most female are similar to the males but a few are a completely different colour known as Valesina type.

@Logan apparently it is called that because of its never ending patrol of hedges and woodland edges.

@strongylodon haven't seen a painted lady for some years.

 

I've seen a painted lady last week.

 

Lots of cabbage whites here, flying and tumbling around in pairs. Nothing else.

 

I heard and saw this test its wings within the bounds of the community garden whilst working in the hot sun.

I think it's an Emperor Dragonfly.

I am happy to report that we also have the smaller damselflies and other dragonflies lurking about.

Follow on...we saw a painted lady today. Beautiful and so pleased to finally see one after none for some years.
