This critter was sitting close to me last evening just before sunset, it seemed to be begging to have its photo taken, so I did.

Yesterday I noticed for the first time that there were newts in my little pond - it's a year old and up to now I've only seen insects using it. The newts caught my attention by coming up and gulping at the surface.

This morning I managed to get a picture - there's at least two (unless one has an absurdly long tail ...). Then just now I spotted babies hanging out in the tops of the plant pots.

I also spotted a baby newt in our pond. It was sitting on some duck weed and looking for all the world as if it shouldn’t have been there. Wonder if the parents were watching from the sidelines? Pic not very good I’m afraid… IMG_1394.jpeg

Our muntjac has a tooth problem. Must be very uncomfortable.

We have a crow that drops by every night just after dinner for a handout. Last night I put out a slice of pizza for it. Who knew rabbits like pizza, then again, who doesn't like pizza?

Our little vixen that was suffering with mange is as good as new. Also, our neighbor who put the chicken coop on the property line is missing half of his flock. rosie.jpg

Checking the video from last night, the fox whizzed by the camera like all the devils in Hades were after him. This is what I found on the next frames, so I don't blame him at all. Never in a million years would I have expected to see one of these on our property! I showed it to a
neighbor, and he told me not to show it to his wife, as she would put the house on the market.:yikes:

Certainly not one we'd capture on a camera here @hydrogardener !

Are they in the general area anyway, or is it a case of lack of food/habitat for them just now?

They move around, and sightings in a suburban area are not frequent. I checked about reporting the sighting, and it said it is not necessary to report them unless they are causing damage or are a threat. Most likely, pressure on their habitat is forcing them to look for other areas to live.

It's a shame the habitat of so much wildlife is being affected nowadays @hydrogardener - by all sorts of things, but humans are often the main reason.
The recent wildfires up here [and many other areas] have caused horrific devastation, and the sad thing is that the consequences of that devastation isn't obvious to most people. The current problem of irresponsible idiots with barbecues and camp fires is the usual reason for those starting. Beyond belief. :frown:
