Hello, I'm new here, just joined today! We have a nice garden but I'm not much of a gardener. I cut the the lawns, trim bushes when needed, plant new things my wife in the main has chosen! I do like things neat and tidy though which brings me to my first question. We live in a very small cul-de-sac and being retired I keep the road and pavements tidy. We have several trees in the public pavement and last year I removed all the weeds in the tree surrounds, installed a membrane and covered with stones. Lately the stones are being disturbed, by a cat, fox or maybe birds, particularly at the corners of each tree-surround-square and the membrane is pulled-up a little. So I was thinking about spraying or applying with a brush some sort of clear silicone or similar sealer onto the stones to make them rigid instead of loose so as to thwart the culprits. Maybe 3 or 4 inches around the perimeter of the squares and leave the centres for the rain to penetrate for the health of the trees. Any ideas or suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums, i wouldn't put anything on the stones because of the rain not penitrating, the trees only have a small amount of open ground already.

Welcome to Gardeners Corner JeffL. :) The membrane you have laid will restrict some rainfall from penetrating and the trees, as Logan has pointed out, haven't got a lot of open ground to gain what they need. Silicone or sealer is not a good idea.

        Welcome to the forum @JeffL

I've used a resin bonding solution in this kind of situation. This is a similar product to what I used, there are a few on the market and the one I used was simply mixed in a watering can and sprinkled on. It essentially glues the gravel together leaving gaps for rain to soak through.
