@Obelix-Vendée Your story sounds like mine when Van first joined the family. Magic Sam (Boo, my big black boy) was still with us, and Van used to appear every morning on the steps to our (then) deck which faced the kitchen window and every evening. He was thin and so I would take out Boo and Munchkin's leftovers. He would run up the deck steps if I approached. I then started giving him fresh food, not leftovers. This went on for two months. Then one morning he wasn't there so I went in search and found him collapsed under the Viburnum. I got Jim out of bed and sent him off to the Vet with Van. He returned with cat and 10 days of antibiotics! So Van was shut in The Baffa (outdoor Living Room) with food, water and litter box. We were going out that night and when we came home he was sitting at the back door!!! So, when we went back to the Vet after 10 days, we had him chipped, vaccinated and listed as ours. That was in July 2014 and Boo took him under his mentorship under he left us aged 20 in October 2016.

Van seems to have returned to normality. He sat on my lap outside yesterday, was home by 8pm has not left the property today and has in fact been up his tree since 8am (he has not been in it for months. We hope it continues.

I'm glad Van is back to normal. I would also think it's the intense heat that makes him act like that. My Bella doesn't come in the house much when it gets very hot, like it did over last week-end (temps in low 30s) but when she does come in at about 9.ish I close the door and go upstairs (where I can sit more comfortably on my adjustable bed anyway)
I don't let her go back out until the dawn has broken, which is very early in the summer. Bella knows when the dawn breaks because she starts howling as the first glimmer of light appears in the east.
She spends the heatwave hours sleeping under the stagings in the perspex shelter by my old garage, and I can't understand that because it is much cooler in the house than it is in there.
I've put a mat there for her so she's quite comfortable

Good news @Victoria. Our huntress stayed away nearly 48 hours in the hottest spell. I was worried as she'd had a barney at the catflap with the visitor in the middle of the night. Much cooler yesterday and today so she's back to normal wanting cuddles and food and cream.

I know the feeling ... Since Beryl died I have become even more worried about Bella than I was before. If I haven't seen her for 5 minutes I start to panic ! and then when she does turn up it's as if a big cloud has lifted from me.

We have a large plot and lots of hidey holes indoors, outdoors, the farm, neighbouring fields and I expect our pair to go and explore but still worry if I don't see them for a while. They always get a greeting, cuddle, feed if wanted every time they appear so they know where home is and where they belong and with whom @Victoria.

I can empathise @michael tho after a couple of hours, not just a few minutes in or case.
