We have long tail tits back on the feeders. Had 10 yesterday but they all seem to be juveniles. Are the parents having a second brood?

We can hear some baby birds being fed in our shrubbery. It sounds as though it's coming from the bird box, which is currently obscured. But the only adult birds I can see whizzing around are dunnocks. An open nest would be too risky here. I shall have to have a nosey in the bushes and investigate.

Hi @On the Levels - yes, I have lots of little places for bees, and other insects, to nest etc. I'll just have to take alook and see if there's any evidence of a site they're using. Knowing my luck - they'll be carrying the leaves to someone else's garden!
Wasps are very busy here. More of them than anything else. They've picked an odd place for their nest, despite lots of better ones. Nature eh?
This little dunnock was having a nice little session in the sun under the peony, where the ground was quite dry

He sat obligingly for a pic on the green roof of the ground feeder too

Had a juvenile green woodpecker in the orchard outside of the kitchen window for about 20 mins this morning. Beautiful bird. Must have been loads of ants there for it to stay for so long.

Classic leafcutter action. Mine are very considerate and mostly attack weeds, they seem particularly fond of enchanter's nightshade.

There are a lot of Jersey Tiger moths around now but it maybe a Garden Tiger moth.

Two visits from a Hummingbird Hawkmoth today.

Lovely to have those hawkmoths @strongylodon . We don't get them here, although I think there's a few pockets of them in some areas of Scotland.
I'm hoping I get to see a few leafcutter bee 'end results' @Escarpment , but I'm just happy they've found some plants they like, and are somewhere around the vicinity. Not sure how common enchanter's nightshade is round here, but I'll try and keep a look out for that too. :)

@pete it is a jersey tiger moth and yes there seems to be plenty around this year.
@fairygirl you can as much of enchanted as you like from us. It is a real menace and the tiny seeds stick onto your clothes and so you help to spread it around. We try to pull it up before seeding but always miss some. They will use "soft" leaves such as enchanters, willow herb and strangely roses, which seem to be tough to me.

Loads of roses round here @On the Levels , as the climate and soil suits well, and I actually have one of the wild ones on my boundary [I don't like roses as such, so don't have them in the garden] but there's absolutely no sign on that. I even looked at some in gardens when I was out my walk yesterday, and saw no signs at all. The hornbeam is a coarse leaf, yet they're obviously fine with that! Never seen signs on willowherb either, and we're overrun with that in the area.
Nature likes to keep us on our toes, doesn't it?

I bought a new grass called Seslaria Autumnalis (Autumn Moorgrass) this year. It's now flowering and every flower head has these neat little flies on it.

The Persicaria is covered in wasps. I also found a flower crab spider.
