I've been trying to sort out my garden for a year now. Prior to that, I would go out in the height of summer with a bread knife and a dessert spoon as my only tools and wonder why I never achieved anything. Finally I decided to grab the bull by the horns and throw myself into it as much as possible.

I used to call it the Bog of Eternal Stench (and sometimes I affectionately still do) but it is slowly starting to look a bit more cared for.

Yes - ask any questions and you should get help @LittleSparrah. You'll 'get there' with your garden, and you'll be able to enjoy it more and more

It always helps if you can give some general info about your location and conditions too, as that makes a big difference with any advice or suggestions.

Thanks. I read somewhere that it's best to write your general location but I've been hesitant. Not sure why really.

If you see mine @LittleSparrah - you'll see it says west central Scotland. That covers a very large area, but it allows people to see that I don't live in the balmy south of England, or the wilder, colder north of Scotland, and that makes a huge difference when offering advice to anyone.

I can understand why you're hesitant - I would be wary about putting down personal info if it was any other type of social media, but on a gardening site, it's not quite so dangerous.

Hello and welcome @LittleSparrah and ask any questions you need to, you can just put your city, it just helps.
I live in Redditch Worcester and that's what I've put.

Hello Little Sparrow. I have put my location as Cornwall, it does help members as conditions vary a great deal from one end of the country to the other and it will dictate what you can and cannot grow.
No matter what your question, there is always someone who will be able to help.

                    Welcome @LittleSparrah .

As others have said, if you can put a (very) general location it really does help with advice. As you can see I'm in Gloucestershire, but "South West England" would do just as well.
Speaking of advice, you'll find plenty of help here.

I agree, it's helpful if people tell us the general area (town, county, whatever). It's also sometimes useful to know if, for example, you're on the coast, or halfway up a mountain, or in a city as it affects growing conditions, but if you ask a question where those things are relevant, we'll ask!

                      Welcome to Gardeners' Corner!

Good for you @LittleSparrah . I still have an old bread knife ( useful for shaving bark from unwanted saplings ) and a dessert spoon in my "tool kit" so don't be too quick to discard yours
Hope you continue to enjoy your garden - as others have said, always plenty of help and advice on here.
