Hello from Dorset

Good evening all, with retirement looming in a few months and (until a few months ago) a bramble invested excuse for a garden, I have decided that I need a garden to retire to, at least for some of the time anyway.

I know nothing about gardening other than the very basic, I purchase plants but there look, colour and their needs sunny or shaded area, wet or drained soil.

At the moment I have a pretty blank canvas to work with. I don't know what I want other than easy maintenance and not to expensive, other than that I will be open to offers.

I am off to read some post and maybe build myself up for the first real gardening question.

Beware, there is no such thing as low maintainance gardening. Whatever you choose, there will be some work, time and effort involved, unless you choose fence to fence concrete. Even that needs sweeping to keep clean!
Have a think about what you like to see and when, in other gardens. It is almost impossible to have year round colour in this country unless you choose foliage plants as well as flowers. There will be plenty of advice here, sometimes conflicting. It is your garden so you can do what ever you like.
Enjoy your retirement, be prepared to make mistakes and start simple. As you learn you can tackle more difficult methods and plants etc. and be patient.
