Windows 10 will run out of support in October 2025

This will establish if it's firstly possible then if it's worthwhile.

 

Hi, Acer, not sure of the model as I can't find the paperwork. Desktop.

Cannon do show a W11 driver for that printer.

As you do not know the model number of your desktop you need to run the Windows11 compatability checker I linked to earlier.
This video shows you how if unsure.

Whichever of the two it is, it'll have a product label on it. Typically, on the underside if it's a laptop and either on the back or to one side on a desktop.

The label will give you a model number. No Label then..............

Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Run" command opens. Enter "msinfo32" and confirm with "OK". Now the system information opens. Here you will get a detailed overview of the installed hardware and also the model and serial number.

 

OK, a desktop. It'll have a label on the back that'll give you its model number.

There could also be a SNID number too.

Your system is most likely W11 compatible, but there are other factors, so you must run that W11 checker tool to ensure evrything else is correct.

 

Well todays the Day Microsoft end normal support for W10 , still in use by over 43% of all Windows PCs.

Microsoft do offer a Free option to get one years continued support if you use OneDrive or pay $30. However most reports suggest this will only be for one year and not extended.

There are two other possible alternatives suggested in our computer magazine,

OPATCH offer a similar W10 security patches but for several years , again for about £25 a year
Welcome to the era of vulnerability micropatching - 0patch

Linux is a little bit more of an extreme alternative , but for basic office, photos and web browsing etc. it can be very good, the downside , some Windows games and programs will not run on Linux.

We've already seen this with Smart TVs. They come with all sorts of apps installed, and then gradually they stop working/being supported.

 

I got it free a couple of weeks ago without needing to use OneDrive. Microsoft made a 'no-conditions' exception for European domestic users. Not sure if that's still in effect.
