One of the reds on Anglesey. This was in Dingle NR (Llangefni) where any greys are trapped & removed.

 

This little buck and I came face to face on a trail. He continued approaching me and came so close I could not back off the lens to fit his body in the frame. We just stood there looking at each other for a few seconds, and he got bored and walked into the brush unperturbed. Creatures never cease to amaze me. As he had no fear of me, I hope he stays in the no hunting zone where I "ran into him."

 

I found a young Common Toad in the garden today, the first since we moved here 13 years ago!

 

Not so common then eh?

 

Despite the cold wind, the South facing walls of Durlston Castle were warm enough for the Wall Lizards to come out, flattening their bodies for maximum heat absorption. A couple of small young ones were around.

 

As far as we know red squirrels were not introduced to the IOW . They were already there.

 

This grey fox was photographed on my property, Google says: "The gray fox, or grey fox, is an omnivorous mammal of the family Canidae, widespread throughout North America and Central America." I don't know how widespread they are, as this if the first I have ever seen locally.

 

Does anyone have any personal experience of Slow worms and Hedgehogs co existing in their garden ?
I'd be interested to hear because since I've had Hedgehogs, my Slow worm population appears to have declined.

I have slow worms but no hedgehogs.

 

Hedgehogs can and will eat Slow Worms, it is part of their natural diet.
We fortunately just have Hedgehogs.

 

Hmm ......... thanks @pete and @strongylodon I had a nasty feeling that might be the problem but not much I can do about it

 

A freezing night and only 6c today but two Wall Lizards were out on Durlston Castle's south facing wall in the sun!

 

My flowering Fatsia was alive with flies and bees today, it was fairly warm in the sun.

 

Lucky you @strongylodon the last time we had Wall lizards in a garden was in the '90's on the Devon/Somerset border.
