          Asian hornets!!

Now the leaves are falling we've spotted a big nest in one of the ash trees so have called the local environment service and someone will be round to deal with it this pm. Hundreds of the things around here this year apparently so that means thousands of the pests.

All done. Chappy came with a telescopic dooberry to inject the poison into the nest but won't come back to collect it once it's had time to work as it's hanging over a very deep pond. Told OH it's better to let it fall on its own.

I just hope it hangs on long enough for all frogs, toads and others to be asleep for winter.

Hi Uk are still on the hunt for Asian wasps , I think this time of year no point in destroying the wasp nest as it will be empty soon as the new queens will be leaving to overwinter by them selves. And will reamerge in the spring and each will make its own family. If earlier in the year yes destroy , they are not like honeybee where they overwinter in the same hive

They are still flying about here @Spruce so I'm hoping it's been caught in time and, now we know what to look for, we'll be alert to any starting up next spring.

We have blackbirds here. They don't come to the feeders but we do hear them singing and occasionally see them flitting about in our trees and shrubs.

                      Hi they make 2 nest

in the spring they make a much smaller nest normaly about 6 feet 2 meters off the ground then late June July they move much higher normally into a tree the whole family move and leave the old nest..

they arrived from China in a pottery delivery into Europe and since have spread

One of our male pheasants having a mud bath in his favourite spot. We dig it over for him occasionally. He spent about ten minutes there.

Didn’t get a photo of her but for the last few days we have had a big, furry bumblebee visiting the first of our Lonicera fragrantissima flowers and the last of our lavender flowers. She has looked very happy. :)

They are just returning to my garden and starting on the pyracantha berries. Here's a chap I saw in the bird bath today - he chilled out there for a long time. Looks like a youngster.
