No Spartan apples left on the tree so the jackdaws have moved to Flagstaff. Noticed this morning that one bird (maybe not the same one) was coming back to the same apple and pecking away at it instead of randomly pecking at many. Thank you jackdaw.
Then the birds flew off and female green woodpecker (again no Spartans for her) alighted on the Falstaff and spent a good time pecking away at one apple.
Will need to collect some more apples for storing this weekend.

I always see wagtails in our shopping centre. Never in our garden.

Shopping Centres are popular places for roosting Pied Wagtails. You have probably noticed how fast they can run and they are the fastest running bird we have.

This morning...sun out and no wind so went to a local nature reserve. Had fantastic obliging stone chats on the top of the reeds. Both male and female at opposite ends and stayed for ages, superb colours. Then a male march harrier swooping over some hay bales in a nearby field. So majestic and the ducks close by took no notice. A few snipe hunkered down. On the walk back a peregrine came gliding over and then moving very fast.
On the drive back we had many fields just covered with lapwings.
Really good to get out and enjoy the wildlife and the sun....and then when home the heavens opened!

The Glossy Ibis flock are still here and six of them have been since mid September. I wonder how long they will stay. They seem to like the flooded fields.

Yes, I always see them in the Morrisons car park.

I've probably posted it before but it's the right time of year for my favourite bit of wagtail footage:

Lots of birds in the garden eating the berries today. At times there were at least 4 blackcaps and half a dozen blackbirds in the rowan. The pyracantha was popular too.

The wren is from a few days ago, probably finding some nice bugs among the berries.

Greenfinches and Skylarks. Not the normal birds to see in a car park.
