    Hi guys,

Have joined today and hoping to get some information as to why my calla lillies have not grown this year.

I have had them for 3 years and each year they seemed to get better until now when they haven't grown at all.

Can anyone tell me why please?

    Thanks.

Can't tell at all Joe. Mine seem to be OK but it is still a bit early to tell in these parts. Is there nothing showing at all?

Mine are only just putting up a bit of growth (they're in pots). They are much later this year than last, for some reason.

Bleeding heart prefers moist but well drained shade/sun mix- and can be quite a hungry plant.
Its root system is also fairly near the top of the soil so any digging too close to the plant could disrupt it.
If it were me i would divide it in autumn or early spring. give it a good feed and see how that goes.
    Hope this helps

Could it be that last year, April was warm and sunny and this year cold and wet?

Thanks for your help guys. I am not a keen gardener but I do like my garden to look nice and I absolutely adore lillies of any kind.

I was so disappointed when my other lilies came up but not the Calla, I will try to be patient for a few weeks and see what happens.

    Thanks again.

    Hi joe90,
I've just planted 2 canna 'Durban' rhizomes (?) I got from from JParkers, on offer. Put them in the border. Never had cannas before, but don't suppose they'll do much this year? Hope you see yours soon :)

    Hi Kazy,
Try taking root cuttings of your Dicentra the can be taken now and grown in 3" pots of cutting compost. Take some thickish roots and lay them flat on the compost and cover with about 1cm on top and keep moist but not too wet. They should show signs of life in about a few weeks. Good luck.
