Compost or not??

    :D Hi, Another question. I am in a quandery :confused: Should citrus fruit & peel be put in the compost? I thought the blue mould would act like penacillen (not sure of spelling) :rolleyes: & kill of both good & bad bacteria What do you all think. I have been given conflicting answers. :confused: :D

    It's best not to put citrus into the compost, particularly not in any volume. It's very acidic, and also takes far longer than 'regular' vegetation to break down.

    [​IMG] Hi MarkO, OK I won't put any in then, I was concerned about the mold, never thought about the acidity :eek: You think because of it's bright colours & the fact that it's fruit it would be good :( never mind [​IMG] thanks. [​IMG]

    I have been folowing the guide to home composting leaflet from Cheshire county council that I recieved when i bought my composter.
    I have been throwing allsorts in.
    THE LEAFLET DESCRIBES GREENS & BROWNS
    Greens-green pruning ,grass clippings Fruit & Veg peelings so its all gone in Pinapple,kiwi skins etc
    annual plants, young weeds,flowers, veg plant remains young hedge clippings.
    Browns-straw & hay,crumpled paper towels & paper bags,wood chippings,egg boxes, old perennial plants woody pruning shredded or chopped, cardboard tubes.Its my 1st yr doing this so Ill wait and see hope it works.One of the things it lists to avoid is (GROUND ELDER )NOBODY WANTS IT IT HAS NO USE
