I have been jogging along quite nicely with my TalkTalk BB even though, for some weird reason, I have to keep using dial-up to get connected! But recently I've found that every time I received an incoming phone call, it would cause me to be disconnected. At first not too much of a problem, whilst I was talking I would get reconnected. But over the past few days I've found it more and more difficult to get reconnected despite trying everything I could think of.

And this morning after trying a g'zillion times, I gave up and rang TT. The guy who first took my call after a short while of 'do this; and 'have you done that', passed me onto this supervisor where I learned some interesting facts.

First off, he told me that our exchange has recently been upgraded to give us 8mbs. Secondly that the Speedtouch 330 modem I have isn't capable of handling that kind of input! And, when I asked why I had to keep dialling up to get connected, that this was a peculiarity of this particular modem!! He also down rated my connection's decibels so my modem can handle it since when it's been absolutely fine!

But I have a Speedtouch 585 router which I have yet to get set up and he's promised me that this will cope with everything that will be thrown at it. Just when I have, I need to ring TT again and ask for the decibels to be racked up again!

All I want to know is - why have I not come across all this info before? It seems like sometimes you just have to be lucky and bump into the right person at the right time! (Oh yes - and he was English!!)

I was beginning to believe everything you said - until you told us the helpline person was English.

    Now that I can't believe!! [IMG] :D :D :D

there are so many adsl modems out there and different problems, it hard to keep up with it all.

In a previous post i informed members of adsl modems and what was happening at the bt exchanges, a lot of these modems are unable to handle 8mbs.

To be honest this is new to me regarding decibels.

    something i must look into...

    thanx
