I was bequeathed my two ducklings Pest and Nuisance when their mother went off and left them in my garden. After listening to their piping for about an hour I took pity on them and took them in. I hastily found a dog cage within which I place a cardboard box and installed an old heater lamp from puppy days. they are now ensconced in a dog pen having got to the great age of 6 weeks. I intend releasing them into the wild as there is a pond nearby. The question is how old should they be to be able to cope on their own> Any suggestions?

Hi there !basically ducklings fend for themselves shortly after hatching, but to release back to the wild i'd say about 2 months old is time enough to let them go.
Good luck with your two, nice to know they've been rescued & cared for .
