I'm with you on that Dave - the only common things between the two pc is the ISP or perhaps the ADSl line itself.

    Dave W

    LofL hubby here -

Our ISP is clix.pt, which has an affilition with novis.pt

Does anyone know of any other BBs hosted by/on UltimateBB? It would be nice to try one of those and see what response times were like.

My ISP uses multiple DNS Servers. I shall try swapping the priority and see if that makes a difference.

I found a tweak that involved bumping up the number of MaxConnectionsPerServer but I cant say that that really helped - I think the line is too quick for that to make a difference.

We shall perservere, but LofL is getting rather annoyed and if I/someone cant come up with something soon methinks she will abandon GC altogether.

Thanks for your input, and I wait patiently to see what others have to say, particularly Titan, assuming the Webmaster lets them know of the problems.

    Regards

    HofLofL

Well, here's ole Technophobe again ... going slower than ever ...

I run two windows, side by side, all day ..,. GC and an American / Canadian site with multi-thousands of users and I can go around that asking / answering questions whilst I'm waiting for GC to go back to Today's Topics, or post, or ...

Okay, I'll go away if I'm a problem but how come I only have this problem with this site  T'other half can't figure it out .. surely someone out there can ... please ... [IMG] :D

    Thanks!

Thanks, Hornbeam, I do appreciate your comments but it doesn't answer / solve the problem of why I can whiz around elsewhere and it's a slog on only one site. Yes, I can go out and buy a new computer (I have all new peripherals (?) as of a couple of months and I know this has nothing to do with the problem) but can't see why I have to have a new computer for one site.

Windows XP on Wanadoo 2mb broadband, navigation and pages all appear speedier than something very speedy.

    Hi
Even the fastest pc in the world with a 100 Mbit connection is only as fast as the slowest point en-route from A to B [IMG]

The trip from your pc to the forum (and back) will take multiple "hops" through various routers along the way.

If just one is slow it will affect your loading speed.
With sufficient packet loss at any point on the route it could prevent loading altogether ;)

You can find out by performing a "Trace Route" which will list the hops and the latency (speed) through each point on the route from your pc to the forum.

Simply paste the IP address of the forum (217.77.176.230) into the "Trace Route" box on this page: http://www.all-nettools.com/toolbox

    and hit the "GO" button..

It may not speed things up but you learned something new [IMG]

Yep, up and down like a yo yo! Actually, I shut down last night having problems. It got quite frustrating. Again, only on GC.

Since getting my new laptop, I am surprised at the speed that GC and other sites refresh, and logging on used to take ages on GC, but seems instant now.

So LOL, are you sure that your computer is 100% ?

Did have problems with waiting for Imageshack yesterday, it was rediculously slow. ;)

I'm getting a new computer when we go to England in October, although I still maintain there is nothing wrong with the speed of any other program I use ... just have problems with UBB sites, ie, GC. Same thing goes for t'other half's computer!
