Anyone grown one from seed/has one in their garden? Supposedly the oldest tree type on the planet, have currently got 3 seeds awaiting germination. Let me know if you have any advice. Nathan.
I have put mine in my propagator in 3" pots (3 of), how long should they take to germinate? Any tips at all are greatly received, as there wasn't much in the way of instructions to grow them. Nathan.
hi Nathan m8 i was interested when you said Supposedly the oldest tree type on the planet. And i came across this site that may help you fellow clicky the linky: http://www.xs4all.nl/~kwanten/propagation.htm Ps Germination time is 30-60 days john
Very interesting page , it seems germination can be brought down to 3 weeks using his method. Do you have any Ginkgo's Steve? Nathan.
No But I would like one, In to strappy exotic leafy things and palms at the mo I think they come under the new term Architectural plants I don't know if you have any local Tesco's that have set up these tent type garden centres in the car park yet (they are all supposed to have them soon as they are trying to get some of the B&Q market) Bought a Phoenix palm today about 4' high 6.99 they have also had Tree Ferns (antartica) a foot high 19.99 (going rate is about 30 quid a foot)and various Ferns, Phormiums, Standard Bays, Ornamental Grasses, Yuccas, and various bulbs, corms Tubers...some not bad prices among them
Typical Tesco's ....... Want a piece of everyone's market, but hate it when people cut in on their market. Good for the consumer though ! Nathan.
I have grown Ginkgo biloba from seed 24 yrs ago and kept 1 plant in a big 3" pot, as I didn't want it to go 30 ft at the time, but planted it in ground some yrs later, but sadly 1 Christmas eve, if you remember, gales blew fences down, my rare Sheep, and other animals trimmed it early morning, severly and not done well ever since. They do suffer from die back, so was lucky still, managed to take some cuttings 2 yrs later, as it was still leaving up. Got 2 now and about 2ft+ tall.So this time I will plant it in ground in another area and keep one in a big pot.
Ladybird Is a big 3" pot, bigger than a normal 3" pot? [ March 20, 2005, 04:00 PM: Message edited by: pete2255 ]
