I have an Acer tree planted in a sheltered area of my garden, it is watered frequently, and is about 24 inches tall. Just recently the leaves have developed some biege / white patches on them, the leaves look as though they have been splashed with paint. The tree seems generally healthy.
    Can anyone help.

You say sheltered...is it possible t could be wind damage which they are prone to?

Also this sometimes happens when bought from a nursery and planted out ....they will usually recover though

see if there are small unaffected leaves opening up on the ends of the stems

What species of acer do you have ? Is it a variegated leaf type or just a standard green leaf?

I got myself a little Acer this year and the £4 'twig' is now looking like a tree.

My question is concerning the leaves.
The first ones to appear have stayed quite small and dainty, but as new ones grow they seem to be getting larger.

Is there anyway to keep them small? A smaller pot perhaps?

I think its just growing true to type as it matures and will end up with the larger leaves eventually

You can have a go at keeping it in a small pot, trimming some of the roots off and snipping the larger leaves off which is more or less treating it as bonsai...if you go for this then i would advise reading up on bonsai to gauge how much root to snip off etc

Or buy a smaller/more disected leaved variety

Thanks for the reply Steve. [IMG]

I think I'll just let it do it's thing.
I'm quite pleased with it as I got it for £4, and I didn't really know what to expect.

Perhaps when I'm a bit more clued up on these things I'll get a smaller leaved variety [IMG]
