I have been trying for weeks to get some Lime pips to grow.I have bought loads of limes but they have all been seedless Does anyone have any ideas please?
I am also on the lookout for Kumquats with pips. The current trend of pipless, seedless fruit is getting a bit frustrating especially when I have waited patiently for the fruit to fully ripen and then NO PIPS !!!
I have already got a grapefruit seedling growing very nicely along with a couple of orange seedlings
The lemon pips are being a bit slow to appear but fingers crossed. Also if anyone has any ideas for other pips I could grow.I should never have picked up that pip book off E-Bay. I now have an all consuming ambition to see how many different types of pips I can grow. I will gladly supply a SAE if anyone can help
    Thanks
    Ghollum

I've tried to find a lime with pips in as well but no luck, they seem to all be seedless in the supermarkets.

Kumquats rarely come without seeds, and they usually germinate easily. I have some little ones at the moment, along with some grapefruit. Unfortunately in my usual foolish fashion I upset the seedlings, so although I know I have some of each, I don't know which are which! I'm assuming that the larger ones are the grapefruit.
LOL, it is a problem! Oranges, grapefruit, lemons, kumquats are OK but no seeds in our limes! :(

[IMG] What about organically grown Limes Pete? Organic fruit very often has seeds & ones that are viable too... ;)

Not tried organic ones, but then there's nothing to stop organic growers growing seedless varieties,...........is there?

Our limes are Spanish (!) and the one I just sliced has no pips, whoops! [IMG] Our lime tree didn't flower this year so no fruit, I'm afraid!

I've got two Lychee treelets I did from seed at Christmas and one Pear tree.

I have just read up on our lime tree and it's a Bears, which is pipless, so my good intentions above are fruitless, if you know what I mean!

Pomegranates, fresh dates, sweet potatoes, ginger root, peanuts are all quite easy. Mangoes and chinese pears also make good plants.

I'm on my second go of trying ginger root but no success yet; maybe the Autumn would be a better time for me to try it. My Lychees and Pear came up very quickly and have now gone into sleepy mode!

This may sound silly, but I buy roated raw peanuts and the usual salted ones ... will these root?

Hi LOL. No, they won't. You need ones in shells or at any rate raw ones. For the ginger have a good rake through the pile in the shop- sometimes you will find roots with pronounced rooting/ sprouting nodules, if these look even slightly green so much the better.
I find the lychees easy to germinate but have only got 2 which have suvived the growing on stage!
Haven't managed a pineapple yet, either seed or top. [IMG]
