I`m not saying buy the plants, John, I`m just pointing out that they are avaiable. I agree with you, there is nothing more satisfying than growing plants from seed>

Growing squash from seed is easy. Getting the damn things to fruit is another matter. In the past i've had a good crop from squash of various sorts, last year, absolutely nothing. Unless you have a greenhouse, the Great British weather can kill anything!

    Hi LG.

I grew peppers outside the last 2 years, and even up against a sunny fence, many of the delicate flowers were blown away by the wind, reducing the crop a lot. They didn't grow as large as the greenhouse ones either.

A friend had success in 2005 growing sweet potatoes in a large tall pot in the greenhouse, leaving it until may before planting. The sprouts (shoots?) were detached from the potato, dipped in rooting hormone, and put in small pots, then carefully potted up a couple of times before planting in the big pot. I haven't tried this yet, but will do so this year (fingers crossed!)

Like terrier, my squash last year failed to fruit, although courgettes did reasonably OK, apart from losing a few to the rotten wet weather. Blue lake climbing green beans were magnificent - defintely recommended [IMG]
    happy gardening!

    cheers,
    Dave

Oh, I forgot - Pak choi grew well, and overwintered successfully in the ground, surviving the nasty cold spell early this year. I ate the last one in early `Feb!

Unfortunately, slugs like them *a lot* though......

    cheers
    Dave
