    Hi Helen,
The pheremone traps don't actually prevent things such as codling moth, they're more for detecting when the moths are active & likely to be 'getting jiggy' & laying their eggs.
Suitable insecticides need to be sprayed on in early summer--about now-ish-- with a second treatment in 3 weeks time. However, timing of the spraying is important to kill the beastly caterpillars before they bore into any fruits. By the time your plims are ripe, any caterpillars that've survived will find a cosy flake of bark or similar to overwinter in..the cunning swines!
Suitable insecticides include -permethrin,bifenthrin,fenitrothion and primiphosmethyl. I've found that Fenitrothion works best.I use the traps to help me know when they're active & then spray.
    Hope this helps!

I dont grow plums but I do grow apples and I use pheremone traps for codling moth.
Now I was under the impression that the trap attracted the male moth, thereby stopping it mating with the female, result no maggots.
I didn't think you needed to spray aswell, just replace the trap if it gets too full.
Somebody help me out on this one if I'm wrong.

From what I know, a combination of the pheremone traps and grease strips, should do the trick - but I am not expert.

Not 100% sure but got an idea its not still available. Best to ask at your local garden centre, if you can find anybody that knows what they're talking about, sometimes you can.

Helen, Keep the traps going, I bought one today and you dont need to spray aswell. If there are a lot of moths then keep replacing the traps, use more than one if needs be. As I said earlier I dont grow plums but I didn't think codling moth was a problem with plums, only apples and pears. Have you had problems in the past?
