    Hi

I have boughts loads of plant from the garden centre this morning and I want to plant them in a pot. The plants all come in with pots so I tipped them all out and plant them in my terracotta pot. The thing is all these plants have big root ball?! - the shape of their original pots and they don't make it easy for me to plant them. I tried to get most of the compost off the root but some of them just wouldn't budge. So I ended up covering only the bottom half of the plant. Will this be alright for the plant? Sorry it sounds like a stupid question because instinct told me the plants would die because not all the roots in the compost.

    Any advice?

    Thanks guys

What plants did you buy ? Why all in one ? are they all same type and hardy ? the roots need certainly be to be covered now, always and over winter specially.

    Hi Ladybird

I tried to fit 2 ornamental cabages,1 Heather, a few viola into a pot beacause I wanted them in different levels, the Heather ended up showing half of its root ball.

Basically, how do you plant 2 different types of plants that are similar in height into different level? I tried to plant the cabages lower but the edge of the pot is in the way of the cabages leaves(if you know what I mean).

Hope this makes sense. I think I might have to have them in the same level.

PS the reason I bought loads was because I wanted to plant 3 pots. It's just that particular pot I'm having trouble with.

    many thanks

Hi Bubbly if you have a wide shallow pot, about 20" or more you can have the cabbages at the back...the heather in centre to front and plant the Violas amongst them. You could pot each cabbage in about 6-7" pots and have then just half sunk it to the compost...they are only for winter and next year, maybe put some Daff. or Tulips in same place,in pots too, when they finish you can then put summer plants in there.
