I didn't realise the colours are reverse either, and I suppose there is always a secondary rainbow, its just a case of whether you can see it or not?

Fortunately the weather changed quite a bit and across that bay you can just see the outer Hebrides on the horizon in this pic:

Rainbow over my garden last spring. You can just make out the second reversed one.

 

All of these are so lovely ... rainbows are magical. I have one taken in Northern Portugal where we are ABOVE the rainbow ... must have a dig around after brunch and find it to scan.

 

I apologise for the quality, or lack thereof, of the pictures. These were taken about six years ago with our old camera from a moving vehicle ... we were up on this high road circling the village in the valley definitely higher than the rainbow.

 

What fascinating pictures, and I love Frogesques' site- excellent clear explanations, and quite a few of the rainbow oddities in the pictures.
