Should we boycot them? and should the olympic torch procession have been allowed?

    I say No.

IMO its a total scandal, we are condoning a violent and manipulative goverment that thinks nothing for its citizens human rights.

Apparently many houses have been buldozed to make way for the stadia and there has been no compensation and those who have spoke out locked up or worse.

We need to stand up to china not cowtow to it in a similar way to the late thirtys and early fourtys with nazi germany.

I agree with you, Paul. I think China has a dreadful human rights record and the atrocities that are going on even right now are something that we should not ignore. I'm all in favour of a boycot, sad though it is.

Look at the scenes from the torch running - bad.

It's a total shambles, I don't think our police come across very well either. Jumping on any protesters. Not broadcast in China itself apparently.

    Freedom - joke!

    cheers

I'm very much in favour of the protest, and it's continuing in the other countries where the torch is passing through.

The chance to hold the games was given to China with certain conditions - I understand that these haven't been fulfilled.

Unfortunately, Mr Brown won't do anything positive as his government is very much beholden to China for economic/political reasons - just one example is that they take a lot of our waste (and they are a nuclear power).

I heard that the police were stopping people for wearing pro-Tibet t-shirts -since when is that a crime

What would happen if a visiting tourist pulls off a jumper to reaveal such a t-shirt whilst attending the games?

I agree with you too. After all we boycotted South Africa during the apartid regime. It would be wrong to ignore China just because it was convienient to our politicians

I blame the Olympic commission or whatever for awarding the games to China in the first place.

But then isn't it a known fact that they only give the games to whichever country gives the officials the best time.

2012 is coming, will we be ready, I very much doubt it.
But then we can always blame the foreiners, afterall, its them that are building most of it.
