Most of my summer bedding are nearly finished now. The petunia's went brown the crusty, the impatients have just not done very well at all and other bedding seemed to have struggled this year.

Anyone else had the same problem? I always feel sad when the season is nearly over (and it seems over too early this year). Or is it just me?

    GP :(

Hi Gillypetunia. My container garden is now fading also. This awful weather has made all the evergreens really lush but the summer flowering plants have suffered. My two hibiscus shrubs developed buds in April/May ,only to give up the ghost when the rains came and they dropped off. The leaves are now turning and dropping off, about 4 weeks early, when they should be in full bloom. A very dissappointing summer. The only good blooms are the roses and lillies, they are lasting a lot longer because the sun isn`t shining and they aren`t drying them out and shrivelling them.

I don't do summer bedding much, but in previous years I have found that the garden declines quickly when July is over.

In an effort to improve matters I have added perennial climbers, shrubs and plants to extend the season, flowering in August September and October.

I've had a few plants this year that just didn't flower at all and I had to dig out and throw :( but other plants are doing well.

Went to the garden centre near us to fill up the gaps and he had nothing!!! Very sad a garden centre that is bare of plants. He's waiting for the end of the month to get in the new seasons plants for Autumn etc, hopefully something then [IMG]

Please don't say that, I've only just finished my pots and baskets (I have about 45) and some have only just really got going now we have finally had some sun! I am hoping to get at least another month out of them!

I treat them like babies however and religiously dead head every day, water, feed etc. I will be so sad when summers over, not that it's ever really begun!

I think I have an addiction to containers and I'm already planning what's going in them next year!!!

I still have quite a bit of colour in the garden, mostly due to the dahlias, lilies and argyranthemums. My containers still have petunias and lobelia but are on the wane now. I have a second flush of roses too.
