Having had a bumper crop of potatoes last year, we've just about come to the end of them, but a number of small potatoes remain and are sprouting.
Is it acceptable to use these as this season's seed potatoes, planted in a different area of the garden, or should we be buying a fresh supply?
This is really now a question to save some money next year, since we've already bought a fresh batch for this year, but it would be good to know for next time.

it doesnt hurt to try. if they have chitted then they should develope a crop. but might not be much from it. and the only trouble with using them is they're
susceptible to deseases. seeded are better buying them, as they are picked desease free. but there is no harm in trying. just be careful not to add deseases to your soil.

I grew maris peer last year. The plot i grew them in still had a few left in , these were just starting to sprout when i dug it over. so i selected what seemed to be the batter ones and let the kids plant them in containers. so far they seem to be doing ok. in fact they are growing better than the seed potatoes i got. I also took a couple of roosters that were sprouting in the kitchen and they are doing well also.

My father always used Scotch Seed Once Grown. We are on heavy clay and he believed that "once grown's" were acclimatised to our soil. He always had good crops.

Thats pretty true tbh. Its like finding a variety that likes your soil.

Thanks for all the encouraging advice. I'll certainly be trying that next year.
