    Hi there
I planted two climbers a few months ago. Not exactly sure now what they are but I think one is a winter jasmine and either that one or the other one was labelled 'solanum'. You can see I'm not exactly Monty Don.
Since then both have budded and one has dark leafy growths. This one has two stems - one seems to have withered and is brown. Should I leave it or prune it and if I leave it, will it affect the rest of the plant?
The paler one has tiny buds and parts of the stem and ends of the branches are whitish as though dead, but not brittle. Is this temporary and should I do anything about it?
    Many thanks

Hi there Sadie just leave them for a while longer some plants are a little slow to wake up from their winter sleep and it's better to wait than rush in.Hel.xxx.

    Hi Sadie
Could you post a pic please?
One way of checking is to scratch a little of the stem and if its green underneath its alive, if brown, then its not meditating and should be pruned out to a leaf or bud or to the base if the whole stem is dead.
Although winter jasmine, at least around these parts, has finished flowering now and is producing leaves.

I'd leave them for a bit. Mine are only just waking up.

Believe me if your winter flowering jasmine has taken then it isn't dead. I suspect that that is the one with the dark leafy stems and if it just went in, it is fine. So is the solanum by the sound of it. Leave them. Don't panic or try to rush them. Forget them and come back to them in a few months.

Thank you everybody. It's always worse when one gives you something. You feel twice as mortified if you haven't 'cared' for it as you should.

    Appreciate your advice.
