victorian plum

    hello please can you help
    can i buy a victorian plum bush or small tree
    which i can plant in a large cantainer
    also what is the best soil to use i have some top soil

    If you want to grow a victoria plum in a container you need to get one on dwarf rootstock such as pixie.
    You'll need a pretty large container though.

    I agree with Dave it would have to be one grafted onto small rootstock... There are some here...

    can you advise what size tub 2ft deep ? or bigger
    and what soil is best soil with composs or manure ?
    would a dustbin do ?

    :scratch: Well Paul all I can say is I have 3 trees growing in dustbins with holes for drainage drilled in the bottom & all doing well.. Originally planted in #john Innes #2 compost.. I now top dress each year & also feed at least twice during the growing season & once towards the end of the season ready for the winter...... They are all doing well, but they are not Plums,but as long as you do not let them dry out it should work OK I think...... :WINK1::scratch:

    hello all
    well i have bought a victoria plun tree pixie it`s around 5 foot tall and 3 years old
    what is the best time to plant into my old dustbin ?
    and i`m using 50% topsoil and 50% composs
    should i mix growmore with soil ?
    any more last thoughts about this

    Paul it should be ok to plant now as it will still be dormant although I would pop some drainage holes in the bottom of your bin & also some old crock to aid drainage too because you wouldn't want your lovely plum to always have it's roots wet through.x
