Laptop wouldn't turn on last night so sat in B&B on my own bored.

Went & bought a new transformer from Maplins, they were very helpfull and gave me free advice aboutt my knackered battery too.

Thought i'd share this here as it was something I didn't know.

They said don't leave the battery in the laptop while you are running off mains power, its the quickest way to destroy it.

They also said to totally discharge the battery, like make sure there is nothing left in it. Wear it out & then power up again until there is nothing left in it. Then leave it on charge overnight with the laptop turned off.

    That might resurect it.

Anyway, going back to the waste of money.

Laptop still wouldn't turn on with the new transformer, tried for a few hours, then I remembered hearing a loose bit inside the machine a few days ago which I hadn't heard today.

Moved the machine through a few different angles, got the loose bit moving again, that stopped the shortout & i'm now back on line:DOH:

:D Nice to be missed. Cheers girls

Will take a screwdriver to it when I get home.

Work is going very well, i'm on top of the job and should have it sorted by early next week. Back at the weekend to help a fellow GC member sort some stuff out and also to drive up to Bristol to pick up a moped for my boy, Barnaby. Then back to Barnstaple to finish the job, then down to West Bay to finish the other Job.

Is there any rest on the horizon

Thought you may have eaten something you shouldnt :heehee:

Glad you managed to get the problem sorted... is there no way you can get your money back? If you kept box and receipt... that should be ok.

If not, they may give you store credit... they do sell the odd garden items I think. Else, im sure you could find something of use in their store, rather than being 60 quid out of pocket.

Hey Ziggy, your laptop battery problem is the same with most rechargeable NiCad batteries - it's called the 'memory effect'. You get the same thing with cheaper rechargeable power tools.

Lithium based batteries don't suffer like this and will last much much longer.

Anyway - it's good advice to only recharge when you need to - laptop batteries cost a small fortune.
