I visited this centre for the first time in March and have to say what an incredibly educating and enjoyable day out it was. There is a great breeding program and regular flying displays and the lady who runs the place was engaging, entertaining and obviously loves and devotes her life to the welfare of the birds. Also a great place to get up close and photograph these magnificent birds. Highly recommended for a day out if you are a lover of raptors.

    No Spoonbill close ups (yet).
My last pic on the bird survey was a Marsh Tit at Arne.
I am trying to spot the Hoopoe on Portland but so far not seen it (yet) there are a couple around here.:)

Hi Kandy! Thanks for your kind words *HUG*

For my 40th B'Day I was helped to get my very first Digital SLR camera :D

It is a Nikon D5000 and I use a Nikkor 70-300mm zoom lens with it. I have been trying to get used to the new set-up by practising on unsuspecting wildlife! This lens is fab for subjects in medium distance range. With captive animals you can usually get fairly close and so it comes up with great intimate portrait shots. I now crave a 500mmm zoom but that will have to wait another 40 years for me to save up! :hehe:

I have had to face that I can never go back to Vet work due to my health, so I have applied for, and been accepted, onto a Diploma in Photography course at Plymouth College of Art, starting in September. Looks like I can still use my love of animals to a different end by trying to make a serious go of wildlife photography. Fingers crossed. At least I could be freelance then and work when I feel up to it! 12 hour days on my feet and night duties were just too much for my decrepit system sadly.:old:

Love to you and Mr Kandy and I think you would love a visit to the ICBP centre!

    Shiney - cheers chuck :luv:

    Hi Cookie,

Lovely camera you have there and it will last you for many years to come and hope you have many years of taking fantastic wildlife photos:gnthb: I am dissapointed with two aspects of my Fuji and one is the length of time the camera takes to fire up so msot subjects have already flown overhead by the time I am ready to start and also my camera has a shutter lag on it so when i press the button to take the photo as I see it,with the delay when I look back at the photo the subject has turned it's head in that split second so i don't get the shot I wanted:(

Good luck also with the photography course and the new chapter in your life.:thmb: I have a wildlife photographer's blog in my favourites and her photo's are brill, but the camera and lens she uses both run into the thousands of pounds,...eeek,but then again if she sells enough of them it will soon cover the cost of the equipment:)

Yes,will definetley go to the centre in the summer months when they have more brids on display.I still can't make my mind up whether to buy Mr Kandy a voucher for one of those Bird of Prey days where you go and learn all about the birds and then get to handle and fly some of them:D
