I don't know if this is a pest or not, but I'm sure it doesn't belong where I found it last night - on the floor in the cubbyhole under the stairs.

They are about the size of a large pin head and lilac in colour, and are sort of like "squared-off balls". Well, some of them are, others are round and roll.

I collected all of them and put them in an old jar with lid, perhaps something will hatch?????

I often find spiders in the cubbyhole but I've never found these lilac things before, but am wondering if they might be spider eggs?

Does anyone have an idea? I've googled but not yet found any spider eggs this colour.

    Thanks!

They look stunning...they look more like sapphires than spider eggs! Are they a jelly-like consistency?

They could be infected spider eggs that died of a bacterial infection or they could be the remains of eggs from a snail Kedi.. In some cases if they die, they can turn purple, but it is usually the eggs of an Apple Snail (water snail) or a Conical snail which is a salt water snail, or so my nephew thinks... He is studying Zoology, but he isn't 100% sure he says...

    Thanks everyone.

I just went and squashed one that I saved in the old jam jar, but it is hard. When I was collecting them last evening, I thought the ones I picked up with my fingers (those that refused to be pushed on a sheet of paper) we softish, like jelly, but I didn't think to squash one then. Perhaps they have now dried out in the jar?

I am in Germany, Spruce. I just see that that bit of info is not there any more, guess since the last site move. I shall edit it back in.

It would be nice if they were sapphires, Mira. Wishful thinking.

Marley, Hubby just said that garden snails have similar eggs, but white. Neither of us has ever seen a snail in the house (thank goodness!), be it a land or a water one. However, that does sound like snail eggs. I hope your nephew can check up on it some more and solve this mystery.

BTW, we are off to Florida again on Friday, but I'll leave the "lilac eggs" in the jam jar. Would your nephew like some to examine, Marley?
