.......I've managed to get some gardening work; it's only 8 hours a week and it's paid at the minimum wage, but its easy tidying and weeding - in a stunning secluded garden - and its only a 10 minute walk from my house. I've been given access to a little shed with all tools supplied and a camping stove to make a cuppa

It's a start and a foot in the door, I'm well happy with it, I start this week :thumb:

Well 2 weeks in and all is going well; the garden is a dream to look after and I get a coffee first thing before the owners leave for work :thumb:

On top of that I've been told that I can help myself to cuttings, seeds etc from the garden , so today I got a pocket full of seed from a Japanese Maple, some nice fat seed from a Purple Beech and there are also dozens and dozens of self seeded Holly and Hazel if I want any.

I also suspect that the garden used to have some Hebes and Hellebores as there are a few seedlings popping up here and there.

There are also a couple of interesting plants in there, a variegated Jasmine that I haven't seen before and what at first I thought was a standard Silver Birch is in fact a lovely cut leaf form of Birch..

                    :thumb:

well done! ... I struggled to find my 1st job ... you may find that work will be word of mouth now .... do a good job and the owners of the properties tell their neighbours and friends who tell their neighbours and friends

there is loads of gardening work .... if your price is right, you will find it easy

many people lead hectic lives and work long hours .... everyone likes a nice garden, but would rather spend the 3hrs a weekend that it takes to mow/weed/etc with their families/quality time, instead of pottering around the garden

perhaps the time is right to start some free advertising? ... tell your client to refer you to their friends/neighbours as you are looking for additional work .... place free adverts on gumtree.com, and place adverts in the windows of your local postoffice and tescos and some leaflets in your local pub

also, don't be afraid to knock on doors if you see a for sale sign, or a 'to let' sign (or grass that is 3 foot high)

                        Excellent:dbgrtmb:

There is a file in the back of my head from 20+ years ago that is telling me that Japanese Maple seeds need to be planted within 3 days of getting them.

Don't know how corrupt that file is though, been through a lot of reboots in the past 20+ years:rolleyespink: Better check that out with a more reliable source.

Cheers for that Zig, I've just googled it and found some info that says that they should be sown as soon as possible after collecting as they don't store well.

They'll be sown this weekend and popped in the cold frame :thumb:
