It ain't about what other people do or think, it's about what you do or think.:D:coffee:

      I think I'm a bit lost here.
How the F word gets to be less offensive than any of the words which got passed the filter in whatever form I don't know. As far as I'm concerned that word is just about the top of the league. There's one to go - and it's creeping in.
None of it has anything to do with grammar - just dirty, offensive language.

Hello Alice. Lovely to see you back!

Some of the words which the filter gets upset about do seem a little odd. For instance, one is not allowed to call a cigarette a f a g. I understand that the word could be used in an offensive way but I seriously doubt that anyone on GC would ever do so, or that the filter would deter anyone who was going out of their way to be insulting. 'S l u t' doesn't upset me unduly; I bet many more colourful words would make it through the filter with no problem at all. :heehee:

Tart: sharp or pungent in taste. Alternatively, a pastry dessert.

Its because its an American filter, we are divided by a common language.

:) Hello Alice and it is nice to see you back and hope all is well with you. I was thinking of you earlier today when I saw your scrumptious sweetcorn picture come up on the Random Album Pictures ... I could have murdered one with some butter and black pepper.

But, to the subject, I appreciate after I posted the thread 'grammar' was not the word I should have used but, as you know, you cannot change a thread title after posting ... my mistake! And I should wash my mouth out with soap also ... .... perhaps it's because it is the American filter because in America, where I lived for 20 years, the unmentionable word I used beginning with a 'p' means angry whereas in the UK I think it means one has overly imbibed?

The dreaded p-word can mean either over here, Vicky. When my sons say 'Mum is p****', they generally mean that I'm furious that they've left a mess everywhere, rather than indicating that I'm inebriated. But it could equally refer to over-consumption.

Now, if we could only find a way of editing thread titles ... that WOULD be useful.

It only means , overly imbibed, if used on its own.

If you put "off" after it, it means, "not very happy":)

I'm no purist and when a hammer meets my thumb the air is thick with expetlives, which I learnt from the WAAFs, you understand, when I was in the RAF!!:heehee: But a gun doesn't kill anyone until someone raises it and fires it, just as a swear word/foul language doesn't offend anyone ....until it's spoken or written down.:mute: But I have always used my brain to operate my mouth or hand to express my thoughts without the use of swear words/bad language. Why?, because I believed people would understand me better and I've always worked in environments where clear communication was vital. So the swear words I know I tend to use, when needed, in an empty room and when the smoke has cleared I feel better and nobody is offended.

The Profanity Filter is not perfect and I don't think anyone could define a perfect Profanity Filter as we've all got different interpretations of what is bad language. So without losing the humour and spirit of GC I guess we'll all have to be Profanity FILTERS.

Oh, *****$$%%*:mute::wallbang::stirpot: did I just write the last word in block capitals??!!:rolleyespink:
