I'm very envious, it's a beautiful one, Bilbo :dbgrtmb:
You've presumably got a special spot in mind - is it going outside or will it be grown in a conservatory ?
I know we're being premature but it's always nice to plan :D

I'd love one but it wouldn't be hardy enough here and i don't have a conservatory :(

As it goes dormant in the summer, it might be best to get the seed going as soon as it arrives Bilbo.

Thanks Pete, I'm getting 20 seed so can always do some straight away and then some in the spring to compare results? :D

I have a couple of warm suntraps that it would be ideal for..:thumb:

I've grown Clematis from seed in the past and had good results, I've had various varieties flowering within 18 months to 2 years from seed, so I'm confident I can get a few plants going with the seed :thumb:

Any advice on getting them to germinate would be appreciated Bilbo:D, I've only ever grown 2 varieties before 'Korean Beauty' and 'Radar Love' both very easy varieties from seed and first year flowers got them everywhere:rolleyespink:, did have a go at another more challenging variety with no success:cry3:, been given a few varieties of seed by a friend, must search them out of my seed box can't remember names off hand.
        This one looks a stunner:).

Hi Simbad, apparently the time taken to germinate differs between varieties, some take as little as 21 days where as others can take 300+ days, clearly I must have been lucky as the ones I've managed to germinate in the past haven't taken much longer than 30-50 days.

It's also suggested that some of the larger harder Clematis seed may require stratification to speed things up and break down the outer coating of the seed.

Other than that I've always sown them as I would any other seed, kept them moist but not wet and in good light and warmth

Hope this helps a little :thumb:

Well the seed arrived today and the instructions included suggested sowing straight away as you said Pete and kept in a coldframe or cold greenhouse, so I have done just that, I've put half in the coldframe outside and half on a cool windowsill in the house that recieves some sun but doesn't get too hot (as an experiment)....now we'll have to wait and see which pop up first :thumb:
