I use broken glass in the pots.......
i'll explain....before the bus shelters replaced the glass with perspex they were constantly getting smashed round here...shattering them to bits...so me being me collected the glass up and used it in my hosta pots....:rolleyespink:
The way the glass shattered it was no sharper than coarse grit and worked a treat:dbgrtmb:
Ofcourse care needs to be taken if there are children or pets around:dbgrtmb:

I Planted my first Hosta last year - Patriot. Moved it around a few times which it didn't seem to mind and continued flowering right through to late Autumn. Trouble is i can't remember it's last position and it hasn't started sprouting yet.

It should be coming through in the next week or two. Be patient and you will get your reward . Once it comes through you will almost be able to see it growing. Patriot is fairly easy to recognise with it's silver borders on medium to large leaves.

I find that the first one to show itself each year is Sum and Substance.

Will do shiney. It does look nice up against the dark brown B&Q Mini Bark Chips. It's the only Hosta i have at the moment but i'm thinking of getting two blue leafed ones this year to flank it with - and of course the slug pellets too - Growing Success ones so the hodgypigs don't get poisoned.

We have some slug pubs around the garden and they work pretty well. Don't like emptying them, though!
