Hi. A newbie here seeking some guidance please.

A fast growing weed has made an appearance this year growing in my front lawn. There are 6 or 7 of these plants growing out of my lawn and when I pull them up, the root runs horizontally just beneath the surface.

The attached pictures are of a plant which is about 8" tall. However, I have found that it will grow rapidly to 18"+. Please could someone id this weed and the best way to eradicate it.

    Many thanks.

Not sure, it could possibly be Vinca.
Whatever, probably best destroyed with a weed and feed application.

More regular mowing would help to kill it off.

I'm fairly certain than the Vinca/Periwinkle in my garden had leaves like below, but I've just been out to look for some, but 'unfortunately' I seem to have completely eradicated it!

On first glance i thought Honeysuckle...but never seen that grow through a lawn...then on second glance thought of St Johns Wort...but really not sure:scratch:

Thank you for your replies. I'm pretty sure that it is not honeysuckle as the stem is much thicker.

Unfortunately, the front lawn was ruined last year when we had the drive replaced and boards were placed on the front lawn together with the usual mix of sand and cement! I will treat this weekend with Evergreen Complete (which I've already got) or something else if you think it will help.

I thought honeysuckle too. I'm pretty sure it isn't vinca. Obviously it has a good root run so the chances are it will pop up somewhere else, maybe in the border where you could let one flower and satisfy our curiosity!
