as said by Aesculus, this is Passiflora caerulea (possibly P. caerulea 'constance elliot')

Im relatively new to growing things other than chillis so im appreciating having something new to play wwith. I do keep removing side shoots and wrapping the plant around itself so it grow fairly compactly but also tall am i doing the right thing??

Depends, but you have to be careful because the Passionflower will only flower on new growth, so by removing side shoots you are limiting flowering potential. But if you want it in that shape it shouldn't matter. Passifloras are very vigirous though and within 7 days of cutting off the shoot, chances are another one will have already replaced it. My advice is, give it some room on the fence so it can grow to its full potential.
